Quartet extend Lions stay

Cape Town - Four member of the Lions’ Super Rugby squad have extended their stay at the Johannesburg-based union.

The GLRU on Monday announced contract extensions with Andries Coetzee (fullback), Ruan Combrinck (wing), Howard Mnisi (centre) and utility forward MB Lusaseni.

The union also secured the services of a number of promising players for the future, including Malcolm Marx (hooker), Sevens Springbok Kwagga Smith (flank), Jaco van der Walt (flyhalf), Lourens Erasmus (lock) and Bobby de Wee (lock/flank).

Bart Schoeman, manager of the GLRU High Performance Department, said the union is thrilled to be able to retain such promising talent.

“With both junior and senior players extending contracts it shows the Union supports young players and aims to develop them into the future Lions stalwarts,” Schoeman told the Lions official website.

“Secondly, by securing our senior stars, we are demonstrating our belief and confidence in the players we have and back them in taking the Union to the next level of competitiveness.”
