Cape Town - Bulls flank Dewald Potgieter has been ruled out for the remainder of the Super Rugby tournament.
Potgieter, 27, injured his bicep in the Bulls' match against the Hurricanes in Napier a few weeks ago.
He returned home to South Africa to go under the knife.
The Bulls on Monday confirmed that Potgieter had undergone a successful operation but that he will be sidelined for six months.
Fellow loose forward, Deon Stegmann, who also returned home due to a groin injury, will undergo surgery on April 23. This could rule him out for at least four months.
The Bulls have already lost several key forwards to long-term injuries. Pierre Spies (bicep), Arno Botha (knee) and Frik Kirsten (neck) remain on the long-term recovery list.
