Pink Bulls to tackle Stormers

Cape Town - The Bulls will play in pink on their home ground in Pretoria when they take on the Stormers in a crunch Super Rugby derby on June 2.

In an attempt to help fight cancer, Bulls have teamed up with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), which will see them wear pink for the first time at Loftus Versfeld.

The pink jerseys were initially only earmarked for away games in the Super Rugby competition.

According to the Bulls website, the team will be using their reach and influence to raise awareness and funds for their service to the public and all affected by cancer across the country.

Bulls fans are also encouraged to dress in pink to show their support for the “Get Your Pink On” campaign.

The Bulls' main sponsor, Vodacom, will donate R20 000 for every try scored by the home side, while CANSA will provide a mobile health unit for clinical breast exams and skin examinations within Loftus Versfeld on match day. Ticket holders can also get their heads sprayed in pink, blue, white and black at six ‘Sprayathon” stations inside the stadium.

Barend van Graan, the Blue Bulls Company's CEO, is confident that their appeal to supporters will be the catalyst in raising the bar of generosity in South Africa.

“Our fans have taken well to our very berry fuchsia coloured kit. For this campaign we have embraced the colour pink as we join hands with CANSA and call on all our players, supporters, sponsors, suite owners and the general public to take part in the 'Get Your Pink On' campaign and be part of this fundraising and awareness drive.

"With the largest fan base in South Africa, the highest viewership figures in Vodacom Super Rugby this season as well as a significant growth on our social media platforms, I am confident that the 'Get Your Pink On campaign' will be a resounding success.”

The Bulls currently lie in fourth spot on the overall Super Rugby log, two behind the table-topping Stormers, which is sure to add more spice to the clash.

The men from Pretoria are currently in New Zealand preparing for the last match of their Australasian tour against the Chiefs on Friday. Kick-off is at 09:35 SA time.
