Peter Grant linked with Force move

Cape Town - Former Springbok and Stormers flyhalf Peter Grant is being linked with a move to Australian Super Rugby franchise, the Western Force.

The West Australian reports that Grant is being touted as a replacement for South African lock Wilhelm Steenkamp, who is set to join French Top 14 club Brive next season.

It is understood that Steenkamp, who signed with the Force for three years in 2014, will be released from the final year of his contract.

Grant, who played five Tests for the Springboks between 2007 and 2008, has reportedly been released with a season to run on his contract at French club La Rochelle.

The move would open the door for Grant to come in as a replacement for fellow South African Sias Ebersohn, who was earlier this week released from his contract to return to Bloemfontein and play for the Cheetahs.

The Force are allowed three overseas Test players and Grant would join former All Black scrumhalf Alby Mathewson and Tongan forward Steve Mafi.
