Nonu double sinks Force

Garrin Lambley

Cape Town - The Hurricanes have stormed back from a 18-10 half-time deficit to beat the Western Force in their Vodacom Super Rugby clash in Palmerston North on Friday.

The Hurricanes won 34-28 to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

The Hurricanes scored four tries through centre Ma'a Nonu (2), lock James Broadhurst and fullback Cory Jane. Flyhalf Aaron Cruden was on target with all four conversions and two penalties.

The Force replied with tries by centre Rory Sidey, fullback Cameron Shepherd and No 8 Ben McCalman. Shepherd added two conversions and three penalties for a personal haul of 18 points.

The Hurricanes picked up a full-house of five points for their victory, but stayed in bottom of the New Zealand Conference and 11th in the overall standings.

The Force left with a single point for losing by seven or fewer, and remained in third and 12th in the Australian Conference and overall log respectively.

In next weekend's Round 16 action, the Hurricanes host the Lions in Wellington, while the Force face the Highlanders in Carisbrook.
