Mortlock named Rebels skipper

Melbourne - The Melbourne Rebels have confirmed that former Australia captain Stirling Mortlock will lead the side in their inaugural Vodacom Super Rugby season.

The 33-year-old was always the favourite for the role, having captained the Wallabies on 29 occasions - including at the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

And Mortlock, the highest all-time pointscorer in Super Rugby, is thrilled to have been handed the honour.

"It's a unique challenge, but one I'm looking forward to," Mortlock said.

"For us as a group we want to be competitive and do Melbourne proud both on and off the field."

Mortlock will be assisted by Wales No 8 Gareth Delve, who skippered Gloucester last season before making the move to Australia.
