Steyn is Bulls' 'Bumble Bee'

2012-03-27 18:35

Pretoria - "Bumble Bee" for the best player. "Ant" for the most potent back. "Sniper" for the player making the most tackles. That is some of the accolades given by the Bulls' management to players who perform well after Super Rugby games.

This week, flyhalf Morné Steyn walked away with the "Bumble Bee" award for his overall contribution in his side’s 61-8 demolition of the Reds at Loftus Versfeld over the weekend.

According to the Bulls website, the "Bumble Bee" is awarded by team management after a review of each game to the player who contributed most to the team’s performance.

Steyn's 100% kicking record, in which he slotted five conversions and three penalties, excellent tactical kicking, passing game and solid defence gave him the nod where a massive performance was given by all Bulls players.

The men from Pretoria will travel to Cape Town later this week to take on the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday night.

Other awards awarded:

Hitman (biggest tackle of the day): Dean Greyling
Bison (most cleans): Werner Kruger (21 in 55 minutes)
Sniper (most tackles): Jacques Potgieter (12 in 61 minutes)
Ant (Best back): Akona Ndungane
Workhorse (highest work rate): CJ Stander

We didn't need to know this. It's worse than the pink jerseys.

      Jason - 2012-03-27 18:48

I have tears running down my cheek its hysterical, but its a tough time for you right now so i will shut up! Mia award................hehe!

      Stephan - 2012-03-27 18:51

I agree. This would just lead to some other team supporters saying things they may regret later on. And I am a very proud Stormer supporter.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-27 18:54

Ha ha ha ha ha, thanks Jason. Very thoughtful Very wise words, Stephan. It might just bite you in the ar..(behind).

      Saffa - 2012-03-27 20:08

@Jason Did the tears also run down your 11 chins?

      Bill - 2012-03-27 20:27

  • Jason - 2012-03-27 18:46

    Oh Dear!

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-27 18:55

This makes the mighty Bulls, seem not so mighty.

      mjvandersandt - 2012-03-27 20:01

      @Bulldozer..... never been mighty though.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-27 20:07

All the trophies over the last decade suggest otherwise.

  • Nkululeko - 2012-03-27 18:58

I am a sharks fan but i love when south african team are demolishing foreign teams. well done bulls.

      sandy.langenstrass - 2012-03-27 20:15

So am I..hope the Sharks come right. One thing we sure of they won't be naming their awards something dumb like "Bunny Honey". Certainly not a manly...,tough game..kind of name the Bulls have there for there awards.

      Selma - 2012-03-28 13:30

You're at the wrong place - this space is reserved for childish comments only.

      Richardt - 2012-03-28 21:21

@Selma. Funny! Sad but very true!

  • Andile - 2012-03-27 19:41

Fellow South Africans let us please unite and support any SA team playing against a foreign team asseblief...

      luvuko - 2012-03-27 20:14

unfortunately I can't because of the way the conference table is set up. As much as I was happy to see the aussies getting klapped by a south african team it wasn't good news for the my stormers team! #StormersWeGoHard

      sandy.langenstrass - 2012-03-27 20:17

Andile...I love my sport and you don't need to ask me twice to support ALL South African sport....

      Andile - 2012-03-27 21:14

Let us kill one another at Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup... Not at Super Level - there - we should all support Stomers, Bulls, Sharks and poor Lions and Cheethas...

      Jimmy - 2012-03-28 10:24

Thanks for this refreshingly wise comment Andile! I agree with you 100%. Nothing wrong with FRIENDLY banter though... unfortunately some people don't know where to draw the line.

      Japjapjap - 2012-03-28 10:35

@NOOOOOOOOO Andile, there all should support the BULLS,....................................................... .......................cheetahs, ...lions,................................................................................................. guppies,......................................................................................................................and then maybe the stoormers!!! its a pleasure

  • Schaun - 2012-03-27 20:39

      pieter.labuschagne2 - 2012-03-28 08:33

Well Schaun, if you are so macho, what do you know about Winnie the Poo and Tiger?

  • Wim - 2012-03-28 06:57

Bumble Bee ... Ant ... sounds like a kindergarden fancy dress party. What silly nonsense!

  • stephan.snyman - 2012-03-28 07:02

I think they refer to "bumble bee" as in the Transformers movie. Showing a lot of heart and dedication.

      Jason - 2012-03-28 07:17

      OMG thats even worse lol

  • Martha - 2012-03-28 08:57

Well done Morne !!! Kani wag vir die game die naweek nie, julle gan die Stormers se gatte skop.

  • hvanderlinde - 2012-03-28 08:58

    haha, awh, so cute

  • Bruce - 2012-03-28 09:12

I think Steyn is ahead of Grant I.e. flyhalf battle. Hougies definately better than Duvenhage. And stander/potgieter combo is doing great. let's hope they stay injury free. Sadie has not impressed much but it's still early days. If the Bulls lose against Stormers they will only have themselves to blame. We are streets better in just about every dept. Although if Joe Petersen ever wants to be a springbok he can come and play for us! ;-)

  • luthorj - 2012-03-28 09:30

silly nonsense... jaaa... let's rather be as serious as cancer like old 'Red Eyes' Alistair Coetzee, Plumtree and the rest of the coaches and their teams. Its about fun, its about camaraderie.

  • bloedisblou - 2012-03-28 18:16

ha haaa ha, dit laat hom lyk soos n' glam guru bitch!
