Cape Town - Former Springbok lock Victor Matfield is likely to make his return to the playing field when the Bulls tackle the Stormers in a pre-season game in Polokwane on Saturday.
WIN: A legendary rugby experience!
Matfield, 36, retired from all forms of rugby after the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand, but recently announced that he'll return to the playing field in this year's Super Rugby competition.
According to the Beeld website, Matfield looked good in lineout training on Loftus Versfeld's B-field on Monday.
It appears that only some administrative issues at the SA Rugby Union (SARU) could prevent him from returning this weekend.
Matfield was the Bulls’ lineout coach in recent years and will use this year’s Super Rugby competition to try convince Bok coach Heyneke Meyer that he’s still good enough to play international rugby.
Saturday's clash kicks in Polokwane (formerly Pietersburg and Matfield's town of birth) kicks off at 17:00.
