Le Roux wants more Cheetahs magic

    2015-03-06 19:00

Bloemfontein - Willie le Roux hopes his outside back combination with Cornal Hendricks and Raymond Rhule will continue its fine form against the Bulls this weekend.

The Cheetahs back three offer one of the most dangerous combinations in Super Rugby this season.

During the team’s 25-24 win over the Blues in Bloemfontein last weekend, they inspired the home side’s attack, despite having limited opportunities. Hendricks capitalised as he scored two tries, while Le Roux and Rhule were consistent threats during the build-up play.

Le Roux is excited about their early form.

“The Cheetahs have always thrived with great attacking rugby, and we hope to make a valuable contribution in that department this season,” Le Roux told

“Cornal and I know each other very well. Both our careers started out in the Boland, and we’ve come through the ranks and ended up at the Cheetahs. We also played alongside each other in the Springbok team last year, which was great as we got the chance to play together many times at international level.

“Raymond is a great young talent, and he’s eager to contribute. Together, we hope to make a big difference for the Cheetahs.”

Individually, Le Roux enjoyed a great 2014 campaign for the Cheetahs and Springboks as he was nominated for IRB Player of the Year. The 25-year-old hopes to build on that momentum and progress this season.

“I was really happy with my game last year, but there’s always room for improvement,” said Le Roux. “I want to make sure I’m better under the high ball, offer more accuracy in my kicking and improve in all the other areas of my game.

“It’s a big year with the World Cup coming up, and many players want to be part of the special occasion. I know I have to keep up my form if I want to get that place in the Springbok squad, especially with so many talented guys coming through the ranks. I’m focused on doing well for the Cheetahs and Springboks this year.”

Saturday’s clash at the Free State Stadium kicks off at 17:05.
