Lambie out for three weeks

2011-03-22 17:50

Durban - Sharks coach John Plumtree confirmed on Tuesday that star flyhalf Pat Lambie will be out of action for three weeks with a finger injury he picked up in their last match on tour against the Chiefs.

“He's probably going to miss the next three games, he needs a pin put in the finger, if all goes well, he will be back after our bye week,” said Plumtrees.

Lambie is currently the leading points scorer in the Super Rugby Series with 74 coming from two tries, 11 conversions and 14 penalty goals.

The upshot means that former Bulls and Cheetahs number 10 Jacques-Louis Potgieter will earn his first start for the Sharks when they take on the Crusaders at Twickenham on Saturday.

“It's an opportunity for Jacques-Louis, he's been patient and obviously done a fair bit of training while he hasn't had a lot of game time, so now's his time,” said Plumtree.

“Everyone else is okay for training, we will make a decision on JP Pietersen later in week, there's a possibility he'll be available,” The Sharks leave for London on Thursday where they will play in the first Super Rugby match to be staged outside of the Southern Hemisphere.

The 3 weeks that was going to show how poor he really is now is out Typical... he is Ok but certainly not our best...Any flyhalf with a brain can get the backline moving.

      Fiftybucks - 2011-03-22 18:21

So what you are saying is that Morne Steyn is brainless correct?

      Ragged-Tooth - 2011-03-22 18:29

Not to mention Peter Grant, arguably the best backline in SA and not a single try to show for it. No RJ, I'm afraid you'll see just how good young Lambie is now that he's not in the team. Our centers will be completely exposed for how poor they really are.

      RJ - 2011-03-22 18:45

If they managed to snub Tim whitehead he would have been solid for this match.

      mike - 2011-03-22 19:10

Pogieter is a very talented Fly half... Pitty he move to the Sharks but don't be suprised when he starts showing up old Lambie...

      majoor - 2011-03-22 20:55

Rj... keep your opinions to your self. Especially based on the fact that it is obvious that you have never played competitive rugby and has limited knowledge of the game...

      RJ - 2011-03-22 21:17

      LOL :-)

      Thomas - 2011-03-23 00:37

majoor!! You are right, RJ wouldn't know talent even if came and kicked him up the backside!!!!!

  • RJ - 2011-03-22 18:54

Don't underestimate Meyer Bosman he certainly one of our great centers, Him and Adi in the mid field keep mvovo and ndungane and JP at fulback train to get the calls right and build some Rhythm, You might be in with a chance.. But Kieran Reed going to dominate your loosies they won't win that battle your loosies still inexpereinced... All Albets know is to bash a ball up... Start teaching the guy some skills... Ryan will still be able to adapt but not likely, the saders scrum is awsome so that will be a great test for the tight 5 === Good luck Sharks but Saders will be 2 smart, well it's just my opinion and what do I know.

      darren - 2011-03-22 19:44

RJ are you trying to start a debate or what? The sharks have the best loose forwards, daniels and kanko may not have the shear size as some of the other teams, but sure do show them up week in week out.

      RJ - 2011-03-22 20:22

look I like Your loosies I mean Every SA supporter has to love those 3 : alberts the power daniel the skill and kanko the pace. Formidable collectively... I just think Reed in a league of he's own and he will certainly wana make he's impresion felt. This is a massive game for the Saders the want to beat the SA champions and Convincingly like they did the BOKKE, so thr they will try to out play the sharks

      Shells.K - 2011-03-23 08:23

RJ. Learn the value of capital letters. They are a precious resource and should be uses wisely.

Lambies record of the highest points in the competition is coming to an end the weekend sadly he will never catch up shame he looks like he wan't to cry on the photo anyway.

  • TheDuck - 2011-03-22 21:34

    I enjoy Jacques-Louis. He'l do well I'm sure.

  • Paddy - 2011-03-22 21:35

SA doesn’t have world-class fly halves. Morne Steyn is useless. He cannot tackle, poor distribution, tactical kicking sucks, cannot dominate from no 10 and theses days cannot even kick at Moftus! Maybe it is because Spietkop du Preez believes he can run the show with his useless up and unders. I would have loved to see Lambie against the mighty Crusaders and the world’s best fly half Dan Carter. Grant is doing well this year.Lambie and Grant is definitely our best no 10’s at the moment.Jantjies is maybe good enough for Vodacom Cup.

      nixcroft - 2011-03-23 08:36

and you are a sod. the only reason steyn doesn't get to put his dominance into the game is because of the bulls idiotic and old game plan of kick and chase and blondie oliver and his stupid crash ball. no flyhalf that completely decimates and scores all the poinbts in an all black victory can or should be useless. Elton good enough for vodacom cup only ? what you smoking monkey man ? the indian ocean rusting your brain ? Lambie is good, make no mistake and i like him, but lambie was shown up in the EOYT to be inexperienced, which Elton is as well, Lambie though comes into a great team, a settled team at a great union which is strong and a management team that is settled. The sharks aren't building anything, they are already great and strong. Even most of the sharks players are settled and experienced. This makes his job so much easier and you know what ? Good for him and the sharks. The lions are rebuilding (yes i know...AGAIN) and only Doppies, Wikus and maybe "i cant pass" Murray can be called old hands. New coach, new structures new S15 players. Jantjies does not have it easy.

It's amazing how when a rugby player does well and does not play for your provincial team he is useless, but he puts on the springbok jersey he is suddenly the best. Lambie is one of the best we have, but there are other talented players out there, which is nice to know when we have injuries. As you all should realise teams win games.

      rugby_guru - 2011-03-23 07:41

      Wise words..

  • onemate - 2011-03-23 07:06

RJ you are a Bulls suppoter, buy the sound of your comments, just because your flyhalf did nothing in the game don't rubbish all the other flyhalfs.

  • rugby_guru - 2011-03-23 07:37

It's a pitty, but it gives JLP a time to shine now, lets see what happens... Sorry Pat..

  • Pieto Smith - 2011-03-23 07:39

    RJ.....what you smoking son?

  • The_Fox - 2011-03-23 07:59

Lambie is a damn fine player, no doubt. Bad news for the Sharks, good news for the Stormers (we need all the luck we can get in DBN, no disrespect intended)

  • kosie - 2011-03-23 08:16

I'm afraid that Meyer bosman will not be able to stop SBW, not even once. And that is a scary thought, We will miss Andries Strauss this weekend!!!

  • JohnnyH - 2011-03-23 16:06
