TRY, SHARKS, LAMBIE! 31-16. The Sharks are hammering away at the Bulls'' try-line in a quest to get that bonus-point try. The time is up on the clock and after several phases set up by the forwards, the ball goes wide where Lambie scores in the right-hand corner! He dusts himself off to take the conversion but his effort is wide of the mark. That''s the final act of the game as referee Jaco Peyper''s whistle signals the end of the match. It was a typical South African derby played at a high pace and with big hits the order of the day. The Sharks deserve the win as they made better use of their chances but the Bulls will have to go back to the drawing board as their wasn''t much variation in their style of play. Several of their backs hardly touched the ball whereas the homeside''s were full of running and always dangerous with ball in hand.

  • 80'

YELLOW CARD, BULLS, BASSON! Bjorn Basson receives his marching orders for a deliberate knock on.

  • 78'

Jordaan launches a counter attack and is soon close to the Bulls' 22! He tries to get his pass away but JJ Englebrecht - yes, he's also on the field - brings him to ground. Engelbrecht has knocked the ball on, in the process and the Sharks can attack from the resulting scrum.

  • 76'

Flip van der Merwe is pinned for holding the ball on the ground and Lambie puts the penalty out on the Bulls' 10-metre line. Is there enough time for them to clinch a try-scoring bonus point?

  • 74'

CONVERSION, BULLS, POLLARD! 26-16. Handre Pollard succeeds with the two-pointer to narrow the gap to 10 points!

  • 73'

TRY, BULLS, ROSS! 26-14. The Bulls launch a drive, from a line-out, and Jono Ross forces his way over the line!

  • 70'

Steyn spots a gap behind the Bulls defence and launches a cross-field kick which rolls into touch five metres from the visitors' 22-metre line.

  • 67'

YELLOW CARD, SHARKS, DEYSEL! Jean Deysel is sent to the sin bin after he is pinned for collapsing a maul illegally.

  • 65'

There's a big roar as Beast Mtawarira gathers a pass behind his back and launches an attack. He bumps of Akona Ndungane and Bongi Mbonambi before offloading to SP Marais, who is tackled into touch.

  • 57'

Piet van Zyl gathers a loose ball, inside his half, and sets off on a thrilling run! He is eventually stopped in his tracks, inside the sharks' 22, by SP Marais and Bismarck du Plessis saves the day for the Sharks when he wins a turnover at the resulting ruck!

  • 54'

Steyn takes another penalty kick but once again his effort is just short of the mark! This after Callie Visagie is blown up for illegal play at a ruck.

  • 51'

PENALTY, SHARKS, Steyn! 29-9. Matfield is pinned for playing a man in the air, at a line-out and Steyn steps up to take a shot at goal, from just inside his half. His effort falls short of the cross-bar, however.

  • 48'

PENALTY, SHARKS, LAMBIE! 26-9. Lambie makes no mistake, from the kicking tee, after Dean Greyling enters a ruck illegally.

  • 46'

There's a big roar as former Springbok second-row Victor Matfield comes on, off the repalcements bench for the Bulls. He takes over from Willemse.

  • 44'

The Sharks forwards infringe at a ruck and Fouche indicates that he'll take a shot at goal. His effort has the distance but not the direction.

  • 41'

Lambie gets the second half underway with a deep, hanging kick. Jurgens Visser gathers and immediately sets up a ruck inside his 22.

  • 40'

    Sharks 23 Bulls 9

  • 40'

CONVERSION, SHARKS, LAMBIE! 23-9. Lambie adds the extras to extend the hosts' lead! It's the final act of the half and the hosts are deserved leaders at the break. The visitors will have to improve considerably in the second half as they are battling to assert themselves at the moment.

  • 40'

TRY, SHARKS, NDUNGANE! 21-9. The Sharks win a turnover at a ruck, just outside the Bulls' 22, and attack with their backs. The ball comes to Frans Steyn. who delivers a cross-field kick which Odwa Ndungane gathers before crashing over!

  • 31'

Reinach brings great relief for his side when he launches a 40-metre kick which sails into touch on the Bulls' 10-metre line.

  • 29'

The Bulls are awarded a tap penalty on the Sharks' five-metre line and they opt to rumble it up with their forwards. It all goes awry, however, when Paul Willemse knocks on.

  • 26'

The Bulls are on the attack close to the Sharks' try-line but can't breach the hosts' defence. Anton Bresler is penalised for an off-the-ball infringement and the Bulls opt to kick for the corner.

  • 25'

Fouche puts a penalty into touch on the Sharks' 22-metre line. This after the Sharks' forwards are pinned for collapsing a maul illegally.

  • 22'

TRY, SHARKS, REINACH! 13-6. Francois Hougaard throws a pass, inside his 22, but the ball slips from his hands and Reinach intercepts before crossing the whitewash!

  • 21'

  • 0'

Sunshine and blue skies as you would expect from Durban at this time of year. A sense of real expectation at Kings Park.

  • 0'

The big news in the Bulls camp is that their coach Frans Ludeke has included veteran lock Victor Matfield on his replacements bench. Regular captain Pierre Spies will lead a team on the field, with a number of players on debut and a number of others with only a handful of caps. Deon Stegmann (groin) failed a fitness test and was not considered, which will give Jono Ross a starting opportunity in the number six jersey. His fellow flanker, Jacques du Plessis, will play in the number seven jersey for the first time after an appearance at lock in his Super Rugby debut in 2013. Springbok scrum-half Piet van Zyl will play off the bench, as will loose forward Jacques Engelbrecht.

  • 0'

Sharks head coach Jake White has named eleven Springboks in his starting side for this encounter. Bismarck du Plessis leads the team with Tendai Mtawarira and brother Jannie either side of him in the front-row and Pieter-Steph du Toit and Anton Bresler at second-row for their season opener. Ryan Kankowski is at eight alongside Willem Alberts and Marcell Coetzee while in the back-line, Conbus Reinach gets the nod at scrum-half over Charl McLeod and starts with fly-half Pat Lambie. The centre combination is Frans Steyn and Paul Jordaan, with Odwa Ndungane and Lwazi Mvovo the wings and SP Marais named as White's 15.
