Join us for our next South African derby as the Bulls take on the Lions in Pretoria.

02 May 18:55

Cheetahs 25 Stormers 17

The home side certainly took all their opportunities today, while the Stormers butchered a few. Although their scrum wins them penalties, the Stormers lineout remains a real problem and their handling was atrocious at times.

A well deserved victory for the Cheetahs.

02 May 18:53
80' - Coleman misses again, that is four in a row. The hooter sounds and the Cheetahs have won! The third time they have beaten the Stormers in Bloemfontein in a row.
02 May 18:51
79' - The Stormers receive another scrum penalty. Coleman will kick at goal to try and close the gap to less than seven points so as to gain a bonus point for the visitors.
02 May 18:48
77' - More handling errors from the visitors, the ball goes backwards but into touch. The Cheetahs can throw in on the Stormers 10m line.
02 May 18:45
75' - Another promising Stormers attack comes to nothing, this time Kotze knocks on as the visitors push into the Cheetahs 22m area.
02 May 18:42

70' - CONVERSION easily slotted from right in front by Pietersen

The Stormers will need to score twice now to win this.

Cheetahs 25 Stormers 17

02 May 18:41
69' - TRY to the Cheetahs. Poor defence by the Stormers as the Cheetahs got the ball out into midfield, very slowly albeit. A dummy runner got the attention of Burger and Blommetjies burst through to score. Tienie Burger should receive some praise for winning a turnover that lead to the try.
02 May 18:37
69' - TMO called into action, Blommetjies is over, running in with not a Stormers player around him. The TMO is going to have a look for possible obstruction.
02 May 18:36
68' - Again Coleman has missed with his attempt at goal, that is three in a row now.
02 May 18:35
67' - The Cheetahs are  making numerous errors here, this time, they are penalised at the ruck again. Coleman will have another shot at goal.
02 May 18:33
65' - Coleman pushes that away to the right. He doesn't have the accuracy of Catrakilis
02 May 18:32
64' - The Stormers scrum is causing havoc now. Botha is penalised for a scrum infringement. Coleman will kick at goal.
02 May 18:29
62' - The Stormers butcher a try! They had a overlap, but Leyds fires a pass hard and too far out in front of Kolbe who can't hold on. If he did, he would have been away.
02 May 18:28
61' - A mazy run by Kolbe as he runs downfield, beats a number of defenders but has to take contact as he has no support. Unfortunately, he loses the ball.
02 May 18:27
58' - Stormers substitutions. Koch replaces Malherbe. Schreuder replaces Groom. He wins his 50th Super Rugby cap.
02 May 18:23

57' - CONVERSION slotted from straight in front by Coleman

Cheetahs 18 Stormers 17

02 May 18:22
55' - TRY to the Stormers! Stormers captain, Vermeulen bashes his way over after a quick tap is taken from another penalty as the Cheetahs had ventured offside. No one was going to stop him that close to the line.
02 May 18:20
54' - Another penalty to the Stormers but Leyds elects to take it quickly. The Cheetahs are penalised for falling over the ruck onto the Stormers side.
02 May 18:19
53' - Coleman sets up a lineout in the Cheetahs half after the Stormers are awarded a penalty at scrum-time.
02 May 18:17
51' - Stormers substitution. Vermaak replaces Kebble
02 May 18:14
47' - The Cheetahs have a chance to extend their lead as the Stormers are penalised for not releasing in the tackle, Vermeulen is the guilty party. Pietersen has a shot at goal from around 50m but the ball misses out to the right.
02 May 18:11
45' - Stormers substitutions. Ntubeni replaces Mbonami. Carizza replaces Botha
02 May 18:09
44' - A promising Stormers attack comes to an end as Kolbe knocks on.
02 May 18:08
43' - Coleman pulls his penalty attempt to the left of the uprights.
02 May 18:07
41' - The Stormers have the first chance for points in the second half after Jones makes some ground. Prinsloo brings him to ground, but doesn't roll away. Coleman who has replaced Catrakilis will kick at goal.
02 May 18:05
Second half underway in Bloemfontein as Coleman kicks off.
02 May 17:53

Cheetahs 18 Stormers 10

02 May 17:52
40' - The Stormers receive a penalty after the hooter sounds, its not kickable so they elect to kick to touch.
02 May 17:51
39' - Botha does well to get a steal with the Cheetahs on the attack in the 22m area. The Stormers look to run out of trouble. They turn the ball over, but Britz knocks on. Scrum to the Stormers on their own 10m line.
02 May 17:49
38' - The Stormers have now lost two lineouts on their own throw in quick succession, a real problem for them all season.
02 May 17:47
35' - The vistors get a penalty as Oosthuizen is deemed to have collapsed the scrum. Catrakilis kicks for touch and the Stormers have a lineout on halfway.
02 May 17:45
34' - The Stormers have a defensive scrum in their own 22m area. A few resets so far.
02 May 17:41

29' - CONVERSION is slotted by Catrakilis

Cheetahs 18 Stormers 10

02 May 17:40

28' - TRY to Leyds as the Stormers hit back straight away. An excellent attack down the left hand side, Vermeulen and Burger prominent. Burger in fact, created the space by coming back inside slightly, creating the space for Leyds to work in and speed over.

Leyds actuall handled first and then managed to run outside the two forwards and receive the ball from Burger. Excellent play by the young winger.

02 May 17:36
The Cheetahs have been the far better side so far in this encounter.
02 May 17:35

26' - Pieterson cannot convert from the touchline.

Cheetahs 18 Stormers 3

02 May 17:35

25' - TRY to the Cheetahs! What excellent skill by Benjamin as he chases a kick ahead by Petersen and manages to get the better of two Stormers defenders, toe it ahead, collect and score.

Whatever Joubert wanted the TMO to check certainly was no problem.

02 May 17:34
25' - Benjamin has scored, but the TMO is called into action to check something.
02 May 17:31
23' - Stormers substitution. De Jongh is replaced by Jones (injury).
  • 80'

  • 79'

The Stormers win another penalty at scrum time but with time nearly up on the clock and being 8 points behind, they can only really kick for goal. Coleman lines it up from 45 out.

  • 79'

That's the fourth penalty missed by the replacement pivot. He sinks to his knees as the hooter goes.

  • 78'

The Cheetahs secure the ball and Blommetjies sends it down town. The Stormers wingers try to create something at the back but Jones misses his man with the pass. The ball rolls harmlessly into touch right in front of the Cheetahs bench who applaud.

  • 76'

The Stormers do fantastically well to run it out from their own 22m via de Allende. Kotze is eventually dragged down on the wing and he knocks it on. They scrum down on the Cheetahs 22m line just 5m in from the far-side touch line.

  • 73'

There is a great move wide from the Stormers but de Allende runs out of room and throws the ball forward to his winger. They scrum down on the halfway just 5m in from the near-side touch.

  • 71'

CONVERSION, CHEETAHS, PIETERSEN, 25-17: The number ten chips the ball over from right in front.

  • 70'

TRY, CHEETAHS, BLOMMETJIES, 23-17: Salt in the wounds! The decoy runner draws the defence and the fullback runs through from 40m completely unopposed.

  • 69'

Again its away to the right. That is nine points missed. Looks like the Stormers will have to score some tries.

  • 68'

Nevertheless, he gets another opportunity after the Cheetahs tackler does not roll away. But this one is about 50m out on the angle. The pressure is on.

  • 66'

Oh dear. He made a complete hash of that one. The Stormers better convert some opportunities at some point if they hope to win the game.

  • 65'

Joubert says the loose head folded under pressure at scrum time and the Stormers win the penalty. Coleman lines up the three pointer from 25m out.

  • 62'

After a fantastic take in the air, Kolbe jinks passed about five defenders then looses the ball in contact. The Cheetahs clear, but de Allende brings the ball back strongly into the danger zone. The ball goes wide and it''s that man Kolbe out wide again but his final pass is poor! The fullback butchered a try there!

  • 60'

But the line-out continues to be a problem for the visitors as Ntabeni throws it in skew. Scrum time.

  • 60'

Groom limps off and replacement scrum-half Louis Schreuder storms on.

  • 59'

A kicking duel ensues and Pietersen eventually puts it out on his own 10m line. He was hoping for more distance there.

  • 56'

CONVERSION, STORMERS, COLEMAN, 18-17: The pivot gets his first points of the game.

  • 55'

TRY, STORMERS, VERMUELEN, 18-15: The visitors protected the ball well all the way up the the Cheetahs line. The big number 8 was simply unstoppable from that distance.

  • 53'

The Cheetahs pull the scrum down and Coleman sets up an attacking line-out on around 30m out from the Cheetahs line. They win the ball and rumble it up through the forwards.

  • 52'

The Cheetahs enjoy a number of phases and run it up to the Stormers 22m. But there is a silly forward pass and they will scrum down on the Stormers 22m line.

  • 48'

Vermuelen makes a smashing tackle but doesn't release the player on the ground. Pietersen has a crack at goal from all of 50m out, but it goes wide. The Stormers go deep on the 22m drop out.

  • 46'

The Stormers backs create some great space in the Cheetahs half but Kolbe tries a 50/50 pass that ends up going forward. They scrum down on the Cheetahs 22m line.

  • 44'

The Cheetahs are penalised for playing the ball on the ground. Coleman has a shot from 40m out, but pulls it to his left.

  • 41'

Coleman, who is on for Catrakilis due to a head knock, gets the second forty underway in Bloemfontein.

  • 40'

  • 39'

Unfortunately Willie Britz knocks it on and we will have one final scrum his half.

  • 39'

The hooter goes and the Stormers earn a penalty, but are deep in their half and Catrakilis opts to put it out as his forwards are already trotting toward the tunnel.

  • 38'

There is a free-kick for the Cheetahs at scrum time which Pretorius takes quickly. The ball is shuffled wide before Venter is bundled into touch. Again the Stormers fumble the line-out and the Cheetahs run it up to within 15m of the Stormers line.

  • 36'

After a number of resets, the Stormers get the penalty, Catrakilis puts it out on the halfway. Botha is put under pressure in the line-out and he knocks it on. They scrum down again.

  • 33'

The Cheetahs run it through the phases and up to the Stormers 22m line. The attack is relentless but it comes to an end when Venter knocks it on. They scrum down 15m out from the Stormers line.

  • 29'

CONVERSION, STORMERS, CATRAKILIS, 18-10: That's 27 in row for the pivot. He just can't miss!

  • 28'

TRY, STORMERS, LEYDS, 18-8: There are some brilliant hands from the Stormers backs, in particular from Burger, who came inside and got the crucial offload to the winger who sprints over in the corner.

  • 27'

The conversion from the near-side touchline is missed by Pietersen.

  • 26'

TRY, CHEETAHS, BENJAMIN, 18-3: Pretorius moved the ball wide with a lightening pass. Petersen is in some space and chipped the ball forward for Benjamin, who pulled off a sublime pickup and fell over the line for a very opportunistic score.

  • 22'

CONVERSION, CHEETAHS, PIETERSEN, 13-3: The number 10 makes no mistake from right in front.

  • 21'

There is a drop goal attempt from Pitersen, but it goes well wide. In his defence, there was nothing on. But the Cheetahs get it back from the 22m drop out and are hot on attack.

  • 21'

TRY, CHEETAHS, VAN DER SPUY, 11-3: The ball was loose after a Stormers knock on and the centre is there to snap it up and run over the try line untouched from 15m out. Soft try.

  • 20'

There is a break by Pretorius in his half but he has no support. Van der Spuy sees there is space in behind Kolbe and kicks ahead, but the zippy fullback covers well and puts it out on his own 10m line.

  • 17'

PENALTY, CHEETAHS, PIETERSEN, 6-3: Burger failed to release the tackled player. Pietersen puts the home side into the lead again from 20m out.

  • 13'

PENALTY, STORMERS, CATRAKILIS, 3-3. The Cheetahs go off their feet at the ruck. Catrakilis slots his 26th kick in a row over. Amazing.

  • 12'

There is some enterprising back play from the Stormers backs but again the ball is ripped away in the tackle, this time by Sergeal Petersen. The other Pietersen tries to clear the danger but kicks it out on the full. The Stormers secure the line-out ball on the Cheetahs 22m line.

  • 10'

The first scrum of the match is cut short as a short arm free kick is awarded to the visitors. They run the ball up to the halfway line.

  • 8'

There are a number of strong runs from the Stormers forwards before Kolisi shrugs off a couple tackles and gets over the line, but Benjamin rips the ball away and hoofs it down field! What a play from the winger, it was a certain try.

  • 6'

The home side takes it through a number of phases before they are penalised for holding on. Catrakilis sets up the attacking line-out 35m out.

  • 4'

Catrakilis tries the kick pass, but over-cooks it and it goes out on the full. Cheetahs secure the ball from the line-out on halfway and rumble it up past the 10m line.

  • 2'

PENALTY, CHEETAHS, PIETERSEN, 3-0: Ruan Botha comes in from the side at ruck time and Craig Joubert penalises him. Pietersen makes them pay.

  • 1'

Pietersen starts proceedings, kicking from right to left.

  • 0'

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the South African derby between the Cheetahs and the Stormers in Bloemfontein. While the Stormers lead the way in the South African conference, it's been a disappointing season for the Cheetahs.

  • 0'

It's a revamped backline for the Cheetahs, who bring in Clayton Blommetjies, Sergeal Petersen and Michael van der Spuy. Joe Pietersen shifts to fly-half, while up front Caylib Oosthuizen starts at loosehead.

  • 0'

The Stormers have made three changes, with Dillyn Leyds returning on the wing, while Oli Kebble and Jean Kleyn replace Stephen Kitshoff and Eben Etzebeth, who are both rested.

  • 0'

It is a stunning day for running rugby in Bloemfontein. The city of roses is baked in sunshine and there is not a breath of wind in the air.
