The Bulls had plenty of possession but failed to utilise it properly and paid dearly in the end.

Good day and welcome to our live coverage of this Super Rugby clash between two of the giants of South African rugby, the Bulls and the Stormers, coming to you live from Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. Don't go away! We'll return shortly with team news.

  • 0'

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke has named three former Cheetahs in his run-on side. Hooker Adriaan Strauss, who made his Super Rugby debut for the Bulls in 2006 (eight matches), is back in the Pretoria side after a long stint with the Bloemfontein-based franchise (for whom he played 97 times) and was put straight into the starting team by Ludeke. The rest of the team consists of tried and tested players, with the most experienced captain in the history of Super Rugby, Victor Matfield, leading the team onto the field for the 83rd time. Regular captain Pierre Spies, who made his last appearance in Super Rugby in Round One last year against the Sharks in Durban, will play off the bench as he is eased back into action following his long lay-off. Another player returning from a long lay-off is Arno Botha, who will start at number eight for the first time in 22 matches for his franchise. The loose forward last played for the Vodacom Bulls in 2013 and missed last season due to injury.

  • 0'

Springbok Damian de Allende will wear the number 12 jersey for the Stormers. De Allende - who was sidelined with a minor quadricep injury sustained in the Cape Town-based franchise's opening friendly against the SWD Eagles in George two weeks ago - is one of three Springboks in the Stormers? starting XV, whilst fit-again loose forward Nizaam Carr has been named on the bench to take the squad tally of Boks to four. In all, there are six Stormers debutants in the matchday squad, three in the starting XV and three on the bench, with wings Johnny Kotze and Dillyn Leyds and tighthead prop Vincent Koch the new faces in the run-on side. The new faces on the bench are hooker Bongi Mbonambi ? who, of course, has Super Rugby experience with the Bulls ? tighthead prop Wilco Louw and outside back Huw Jones. Both Kotze and Leyds are graduates of the WP Rugby Institute and cup-winning U21 set-ups, with Leyds having had a brief taste of Super Rugby in the colours of the Western Force in 2014. With regular skipper Jean de Villiers out for the season through injury, Duane Vermeulen will lead the team from the number eight position.
