The Blues win a ruck penalty and West finds touch on the Lions 22 but Kaino spills it at the next ruck. A nothing kick from Combrinck means the Blues can counter and they win a penalty as the Lions go off their feet.
Penalty to the Lions for wheeling the scrum. Combrinck has a go from long range...but it's just wide.
Hayden Triggs spills the lineout under pressure from Mostert. The Lions have a scrum 5m inside the Blues half.
What are you doing Faf de Klerk?! The scrum-half decides to take a very kickable penalty quickly...gets isolated and gives away a penalty. That should have been a 6-point lead for the Lions, instead the Blues can clear.

The Blues look to move it wide at pace. Mapoe is up fast in defence though, forcing Piutau to throw his pass to Halai forward.
The Lions look keen to swing the ball around early on but Redelinghuys knocks on, handing the Blues a scrum 15m inside the Lions half.

BLUES 10-3 LIONS
The Blues are back on the attack with Piutau carrying strongly. Visinia puts in a grubber, which bounces over the head of Cronje. The Lions clear off the lineout, but it doesn't go very far.
The Lions survive as a Blues knock-on out wide gives them a scrum before they win a penalty at the ensuing ruck. Jantjies clears.
Penalty to the Blues after Tuipulotu is played in the air at a lineout. West sets up the attacking lineout just inside the Lions 22.
CONVERSION, WEST. 10-3. Easy extras.
TRY, BLUES, KAINO. 8-3. The Blues power towards the line. Faumuina is stopped under the sticks but Kaino only has to edge the ball a foot forward to score!
The Blues are over the line! Melani Nanai steps three defenders then powers through two more but is held up over the line. The Lions scrum will face a massive test now 5m out! Kaino comes back on, just in time.
Mapoe breaks the line, but it's off a forward pass, so we'll have yet another scrum. This is a great chance for the Blues, just outside the Lions 22.
PENALTY, LIONS, JANTJIES. 3-3. We''re all-square. The Blues are penalised for being offside again and get warned by the ref. Next time it''ll be a card.
PENALTY, BLUES, WEST. 3-0. At last we have the first points as West splits the uprights after the Lions are caught offside at the breakdown.
A break in play as Jerome Kaino gets some attention after a head knock.
Mastriet and Visinia clatter into each other in the air after a bomb from West. Scrum to the Lions for the knock on. The Blues win a free kick at scrum time, but opt for another set piece.
Still no points after 15 minutes, a handful of handling errors have cost both sides. The Blues will feed a scrum just inside their own half.
The Blues under pressure as Mnisi hacks a loose ball upfield. Harold Vorster is all over Halai in the 22, but the Blues wing has support from big Kev Mealamu. Some kick tennis sees the ball go over the Blues tryline. 22 restart.
A great break from Ihaia West takes the Blues deep in the Lions territory. Tuipulotu is up in support and makes good ground. But Ofa Tu'ungafasi knocks on! That's an opportunity lost.
Jantjies MISSES! He should have landed that, it was far out, but dead in front.
It's been a positive start for Blues, but they give away a penalty near their 10m line for being offside. Jantjies will have a crack at goal
Jantjies kicks straight down Halai's throat. The wing counter attacks but is isolated and the Blues give away a penalty. But Combrinck misses touch! That's a bad mistake.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of today's first Super Rugby clash. Last year the Lions edged the Blues at Ellis Park but the Kiwi side - at home this time - will start as favourites today.
Blues team news: Inspirational Blues and All Blacks hooker Keven Mealamu will establish a new Super Rugby record in what will be his 163rd appearance. Mealamu has been named alongside fellow All Black Charlie Faumuina and Ofa Tu?ungafasi, who gets his first start of the season.
Steven Luatua is back to his regular starting spot in the loose forwards. Last year?s Blues Development player of the year, winger Melani Nanai, has earned a second start. Frank Halai makes his first appearance of the season.
Lions team news: Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has made two changes to his starting XV. Corne Fourie will make his first start at loosehead prop this season. He replaces Schalk van der Merwe. Ross Cronje comes in at scrum-half at the expense of Faf de Klerk.
