Fifth new skipper for Kings

Cape Town - Centre Andries Strauss will lead the Kings in their Super Rugby clash against the Hurricanes in Wellington, New Zealand on Saturday.

Strauss will become the fifth selected captain by the Port Elizabeth franchise this year.

Luke Watson led the side in the first game against the Force, but had to leave the field after 30 minutes before Strauss took over. In their next game against the Sharks, it was lock Darron Nell who took the captaincy reigns, and while he was retained for the next match against the Chiefs, a freak injury sustained during the warm-up saw him pull out and fellow lock Steven Sykes took over.

Sykes was then also injured which saw Schalk Ferreira lead the team against the Crusaders last week.

Strauss will take charge this week after recovering from a bruised AC joint which sidelined him last week.

The Kings' director of rugby, Alan Solomons, also confirmed that Sykes will return for Saturday's clash.

"It will be great to have those two guys (Strauss and Sykes) back in the side, both in terms of their playing ability and the leadership they provide," said Solomons.

Kick-off is at 05:35 (SA time) on Saturday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
