Killing of rugby fan condemned

Durban - KwaZulu-Natal sport MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha on Thursday condemned the murder of a man outside Kings Park Stadium here last Saturday.

"The department will engage the stadium management to ensure that such incidents do not occur in future, as stadiums are supposed to be safe places where sport-loving people and their families can enjoy themselves," he said.

Brett Williams, 29, a Royal Marine, was beaten to death on Saturday after the Super Rugby match between the Sharks and the Rebels.

Sibhidla-Saphetha urged any witnesses to co-operate with police. Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the motive for the killing was not known. No arrests had been made.
