Kaplan to ref Bulls v Sharks

Cape Town - Leading Test referee Jonathan Kaplan has been appointment to take charge of the Vodacom Super Rugby all-South African Conference derby between the Bulls and Sharks at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:05 SA time.

Meanwhile, under-fire Marius Jonker and Pro Legoete will be the referee and assistant referee respectively in the Cheetahs v Stormers match in Bloemfontein, also on Saturday.

There was one change to the SANZAR appointments that were released two weeks ago. Steve Walsh continues to struggle with a calf injury and has been replaced by Chris Pollock as referee of the Crusaders v Hurricanes fixture in Wellington.

SANZAR Game Manager, Lyndon Bray, confirmed that Walsh would not be available for the Super Rugby playoffs.

"Steve is busy with a rehabilitation programme that is geared towards resolving the injury and making sure he is available for international and Rugby World Cup duty later in the year.

"It has been very frustrating for us as Steve has been in good form and would most likely have featured prominently in the final stages of the Super Rugby competition".

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
