Jones cited for spear tackle

Melbourne - Luke Jones of the Rebels has been cited for alleged foul play during a Super Rugby match at the weekend.

Jones is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (j) Lifting a Player from the ground and either dropping or driving that Player’s head and/or upper body into the ground whilst the Player’s feet are off the ground, when he lifted Bulls player Bjorn Basson in a tackle and continued with that tackle so that Basson’s neck and shoulder region contacted the ground while his legs were still in the air. The incident occurred in the 25th minute of the match between the Rebels and Bulls at AAMI Park in Melbourne on Friday 4th of May.

The Referee for the Match: Andrew Lees issued a Yellow and White Card on the field after consultation with his Assistant Referee.

Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the Red Card threshold for foul play

The Citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Mike Heron.
