Johnson, Fourie off the hook

Cape Town - Cheetahs loose forward Ashley Johnson and Stormers hooker Deon Fourie have been issued with off-field yellow cards after a scuffle in their Super Rugby clash at Newlands on Saturday night.

Both were guilty for contravening Law 10.4(m): Acts contrary to good sportsmanship.

The two began exchanging punches during the 55th minute of the match, which the Stormers won 16-14. Their actions prompted a mass-scuffle between various sets of players from both sides.

An off-field yellow card may be issued by the SANZAR citing commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings.

The incident was acted upon by referee Steve Walsh. Walsh also penalised and issued a yellow and white card for a prior incident to Stormers flank Rynhardt Elstadt. Walsh then issued a white card for the entire scuffle from both teams.

Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed off-field yellow cards were appropriate for Johnson and Fourie.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
