Cape Town - Sharks coach John Plumtree says a lot can be taken from their loss to the Waratahs as they prepare to tackle the Brumbies in Canberra this weekend.
The Sharks went down 34-30 to the Waratahs in Sydney last Saturday after leading for much of the game, but despite letting victory slip from their grasp the coach remains upbeat for the tour ahead.
“Were really pleased with our lineout, the Waratahs have a much taller pack than us but we won all (12/12) of our own throw-ins. That’s the best it’s been and we want to build on that.
“But we were disappointed with the defensive effort on the weekend, it’s something we’re going to focus on now," Plumtree told Sharks website editor, Michael Marnewick.
Finding other positives Plumtree indicated that they would have made the locals very happy with the way they played that contributed to an outstanding game of rugby.
“Our mindset is to really attack and the Australian media is going nuts over how great the game was to watch compared to what they’ve seen in Sydney in the past few weeks. So it was nice from a Waratahs’ perspective [winning] and it was a good game of rugby for the crowd.
"But we want to win. We put a big emphasis on winning this match, we did all the right things during the week, but ultimate it wasn’t good enough, we conceded two or three soft tries and that was really disappointing.
“Against the Brumbies you don’t want to be doing that.”
Plumtree also confirmed that Springbok loose forward Jean Deysel had arrived to join the team at their hotel.
“It’s good to have Jean here with us, he’s such a lovely character to have - both on and off the field - so it’s a big plus for us having him here. JP Pietersen coming back from injury should be good and while we took one or two other knocks from the game, we’re hoping to have everyone fit for Saturday.”
Pat Lambie took a knee to the face and has a dental injury. “We’re hoping that he’ll be fine by the weekend,” Plumtree added.
