Jacobs to return for Cheetahs

Cape Town - Cameron Jacobs will return as the starting right wing for the Cheetahs when they take on the Highlanders in a Super Rugby clash in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Volksblad reports that Jacobs will replace the injured Rayno Benjamin (shoulder), with the versatile Philip Snyman on the substitutes' bench.

Jacobs, Snyman and Rocco Jansen were the candidates to take over from the injured Benjamin. Jansen trained with the Cheetahs on Monday but he'll return to play Vodacom Cup for Griquas, where he's played for the last two weeks.

Cheetahs backline coach Hawies Fourie said it was an easy decision to include Jacobs.

"Cameron will start and Philip will remain on the bench. Rocco will return to Griquas.

"Cameron played well before we replaced him with Rayno. We feel it's only fair that he gets a chance.

"Cameron would in any case have been a substitute against the Chiefs (the Cheetahs' last game after receiving a bye last weekend) had Johan Goosen been unable to play," said Fourie.

Benjamin will see a specialist on Tuesday about his shoulder but he is expected to miss the rest of the Super Rugby season.

Fourie said Jacobs's omission a few weeks ago was more a tactical decision.

"We wanted to play Rayno against the big and strong Julian Savea of the Hurricanes.

"Then Rayno played really well and kept his place."

Jacobs started in earlier games against the Brumbies, Rebels and Crusaders.
