Highlanders hold off Cheetahs

Cape Town - The Highlanders have beaten the Cheetahs in their Vodacom Super Rugby clash in Dunedin on Friday.

The Highlanders won 24-21 after leading 17-14 at half-time.

The Highlanders scored three tries through flank Adam Thomson (2) and centre Kendrick Lynn. Flyhalf Colin Slade landed all three conversions as well as a penalty.

The Cheetahs replied with tries by prop WP Nel, centre Robert Ebersohn and wing Phillip Burger. Flyhalf Sias Ebersohn was successful with all three conversions.

The Highlanders picked up four points for their victory and moved into second spot in the New Zealand Conference and into fifth position in the overall standings.

The Cheetahs left Carisbrook with a single point, but remain rooted to the bottom of both the South African Conference and overall log.

In next weekend's Round 9 action, the Highlanders travel to Melbourne to face the Rebels, while the Cheetahs welcome the Hurricanes to Bloemfontein.
