Cape Town - Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett has slammed the Bulls' rolling mauls from lineouts ahead of their Super Rugby encounter in Napier on Saturday.
The Bulls were highly effective using the rolling maul in their 34-all draw against the Chiefs last weekend, and were even awarded a penalty try after mauling for about 20m before the Chiefs collapsed it.
"The rolling maul is completely illegal in terms of how it's set up, but I've talked to refs numerous times and numerous other coaches have done that as well, but it's something at the moment they (the referees) aren't prepared to change," Hammett told the Stuff.co.nz website.
''The biggest issue isn't around the maul, it's the entry of players coming in, in front of the ball carrier and it's done continuously,'' he said.
''I don't think it's something that will change mid-season, if at all.''
The 'Canes coach is confident that his charges can stop the Bulls on Saturday though.
''You have to stop it at the source, whether it's getting up in the air or stopping it before the train gets moving.''
Kick-off for Saturday's game at McLean Park is scheduled for 08:35 (SA time).
