Grant out of Lions clash

2011-04-14 16:24

Cape Town - DHL Stormers flyhalf Peter Grant has been withdrawn from the squad to take on the MTN Lions in Johannesburg this weekend.

Grant took a blow to the knee in practice on Tuesday and has not recovered sufficiently.

Gary Van Aswegen will wear the 10 jersey, whilst Lionel Cronje gets called up from the Western Province Vodacom Cup team as cover on the bench.

The DHL Stormers have a bye after this week's game and Grant is expected to recover fully for the following match against the Sharks on 30 April at DHL Newlands.

Get Lionel on early at 15 (stuff cover for Gary) Gary has played two full games of rugby against the Lions this year - in the Neotel pre season shindig, and in the opening fixture. The only positive here is: Lionel Cronje hopefully gets a run from the bench - a long run.

      Brannas - 2011-04-14 20:05

      molefeP - 2011-04-15 07:51

I think that Grant needs all the rest he can get! Even if just to minimise the risk of a serious injury! We are going to need both Grant and Morne fit for the RWC!

This could be a blessing in disguise. Grant came straight out of Japan and into the Stormers setup, so maybe he could use this time recoop a bit. I would however have started with Cronje and put Van Aswegen on the bench as backup. Stormers should still bag the five points.

  • Jean - 2011-04-14 16:56

Dis okay!

  • Leslie - 2011-04-14 16:56

Maar go Lions!!

  • Herman Steytler - 2011-04-14 17:37

Grant is goed (2), maar Lambie is beste... Steyn is nommer 3

  • GraemeBB - 2011-04-14 18:13

Grant has kicked well, and seems to have a running game (lets not count last week). The Stormers will certainly miss him, and I hope that he will recover soon. I just cant see the Lions beating the Stormers - but they also did much better against the Redds than the Stormers. The bad thing about this game is that the Lions have nothing to lose, and the Stormers have everything to lose. Only a good win will do for the Stormers. I predict Stormers by 12 - with caution.

      Ockie - 2011-04-14 18:26

Rugby sometimes can be very unpredictable. I do hope that the Stormers feel they have this one in the bag. Lions might just surprise them. They have nothing to loose and often that makes a team dangerous.

      Oukoos - 2011-04-14 20:37

Although Grant is the more experienced and streetwise flyhalf van Aswegen and Cronje is good enoiugh to make a winning difference.I am of the opinion that the Stormers is in for a hard day at the office.Stormers to take it by 7 if they are focussed.I have a strange feeling that the Bulls might prove to be a bridge to far for the Reds.Hougaardt is a game breaker and creates tries out of nothing like Fourie du Preez, but is more unpredictable. He is also in good form and he will be at the centre of things Saturday.Hope he can ignite the Bulls into action. If not,woe behold our world cup campaign.

Ek is vroeër geslag omdat ek Hougaardt as Sa se #1 skrumskakel beskou.
