Gold: We won't respond if Bulls provoke us

    2015-04-17 09:01

Cape Town - Sharks Director of Rugby Gary Gold says his players won't retaliate with foul play if the Bulls try to provoke them in their Super Rugby clash in Durban on Saturday.

The Sharks have a torrid disciplinary record in this year’s Super Rugby competition, with three players - captain Bismarck du Plessis, utility back Frans Steyn and loose forward Jean Deysel - currently serving bans for foul play.

Apart from the three red cards, the Sharks have also had three yellow cards and currently lie second from bottom in the South African Conference, and ninth on the overall standings.

Gold though insisted that their discipline would be better on Saturday, even if the Bulls try to goad them into retaliation.

When asked about the possibility of the Bulls provoking his players, Gold told The Mercury: "Then we just cannot respond."

Gold said it's a difficult scenario to be in when players are being niggled off the ball, "but unfortunately that is the way it is."

The Sharks mentor said it would be "unacceptable" if his players were to respond negatively. He said he hopes the Bulls won't employ the tactic, but is confident his charges will behave.

Kick-off for Saturday's clash at Kings Park is scheduled for 17:05.
