Cape Town - Force lock Phoenix Battye has been cited for alleged foul play during a Super Rugby match at the weekend.

Battye is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (j) when he lifted Reds scrumhalf Will Genia in a tackle and drove him backwards so that Genia’s feet were above his head, causing Genia’s head and shoulder area to hit the ground in such a way that put him in danger of a serious injury.

The incident occurred in the 75th minute of the match between the Force and Reds in Perth at NIB Stadium on Saturday. The Force won 45-19.

Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Mike Heron.
