Flip-ing hell, Bulls lose lock

2012-07-09 15:15

Pretoria - Bulls lock Flip van der Merwe has been ruled out of the team's Super Rugby clash against the Lions at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Van der Merwe suffered a hip injury against the Sharks in Durban last week, and will not recover in time for the weekend's clash, Bulls team doctor Org Strauss confirmed on Monday.

It will be the last regular Super Rugby clash of the season.

"Flip had a scan on Monday and it confirmed the injury. He will miss a week of rugby," Strauss said.

No other injuries had been reported from the side that travelled to Durban.

lol@chaplin---the bulls and the titanic have more or less the same depth....go stormers!

      Andrew - 2012-07-09 16:18

I thought the season was over for the Bulls.... STORMERS!!!!

      Byron - 2012-07-09 16:45

One of the worst headlines ever, Lame in the extreme

      JohnRambo1723 - 2012-07-10 12:27

I love it when the Stormers gets 'groot bek'. It seems that 11 years of not winning a cup would have taught them to rather wait until the fat lady (who may or may not be one of those groot Blou Bul tannies) sings. And they're at it again this year.

  • dhirshan.gobind - 2012-07-09 15:20

    fly bakkies over lol

      grammarand.spelling.9 - 2012-07-09 15:51

Why would they need to import bakkies? That's strange to say.

      chris.debeer.14 - 2012-07-09 17:42

Not a bad idea,,,,,,,,,,,,,grammarand......."want hulle speel soos hulle g@t. Swakste game wat ek ooit die bulle sien speel het" Yes, I am a bulls supporter and not too proud to say that at the moment. But having said that : We (bulls) knew we would not be the same team as last year after losing a few key players. My question is the following : With all the Stormers jumping onto the bandwagon and criticizing the bulls for the rugby they are playing, where is your team that is going "to win the Super 15" ? And please don't refer to the current team because the Sharks will kick your asses with the game they played on Saturday !

      john.edwards.733450 - 2012-07-09 18:25

Chris, you make some good points . Looking back at the season IMO the biggest missing piece has been our defense causing us to lose more than one game where we were the dominant team . If we can do what the chiefs did and fix that aspect and get a more competitive scrum we'll be up there .

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-09 18:46

what makes me moist is that the stormers have not played either of the other conference topping teams. they have not played the brumbies nor the chiefs this season. i would also be pooping myself if i were them. everyone says the stormers play bad but still win, but how excellent to see attacking teams like the sharks and bulls stay in contention - play badly but make top 6. good luck against the brumbies and chiefs stormers, and a resurgent saders team. oh it will be epic. the saders beat u, the table topping chiefs u have not encountered and the aus conference topping brumbies also have not been within 800km of you. chris the current team is the third team remember. imagine if it were the first team, they might win 5 more penalties a game.

      jan.scheepers.927 - 2012-07-10 09:34

What is the problem? Morne will still kick and anybody can chase and hope for the best. May be a problem for the Lions. Will get less penalties.

  • Bossie - 2012-07-09 15:41

"Flip had a scan on Monday and it confirmed the injury. He will miss a week of rugby," Strauss said.

Hopefully he will be fit to fly to NZ for the semi-finals. One has to be optimistic!

      john.edwards.733450 - 2012-07-09 18:33

it's still in their hands .. fixing our kuk defense could go a long way to get us on the right track .. but yeah I won't be putting my money on it ;-)

  • deon.louw.7505 - 2012-07-09 15:48

Not one of the 3 local teams still in the running looks like winning the cup this year. Crusaders and Chiefs will be tough to beat at the business end of the competition. Aiming for a 6th place and a possible game against the Brumbies might not be so bad.

      lablue.phoenix - 2012-07-09 15:50

Hoekom is jy so negatief ou perd?

  • harry.daniel.77 - 2012-07-09 19:11

To all the non-bulls: Despite losing 9 boks they still did brilliantly this year. Still leading the "awesome" Sharks on the log after so many weeks. And the Stormers you ask ? Well, they have never won the super 15 despite ending on top of the log year after year. Anyone with proof that it would be any different this year? LOL

      Tom - 2012-07-09 21:09

Stop living in the past like the crusaders and the brumbies and reds and blues please The stormers have now come up with the excuses long before playoffs that they won the cup for long term best team not lucky teams getting lucky in the final few games. Classic. Nice cop out chaps hahahahaha just remember u won the SA conference not the overall table, that belongs to a team u have not met yet

  • heinrich.vanjaarsveld.52 - 2012-07-09 19:38

Let's get interesting stormers sharks lions bulls and cheetahs who can tell me where did most of the players learned there rugby for which team or province at school level come the most players before money took them to other teams

      Gerrit Van Breda - 2012-07-09 20:33

Meeste spelers kom van Grey College af.

      Tom - 2012-07-09 21:01

Where were u born? How much do u weigh? Thief! Disgrace! No players of colour in the youth program. Money! Evil, amateur rugby, Louis luyt, francois pienaar, can't buy ur springbok jersey in totalsports, cheeky Watson cj stander born in George not eastern cape, grey college, scrum caps, shoulder pads, Saracens, injuries, penniless, varsity cup, no sponsors for tv broadcast. Play for where u were born, hate money

      ChrisinOz294 - 2012-07-10 02:43

In Aus rugby league they have a State of Origin. NSW and Queensland play in a compitition every year. The selection however is based on in which state you played your first a-grade game. It would be interesting to have a "Province of Origin" game in SA, for example between the Free State and the Sharks, or WP and Bulls with players chosen on where they started their career.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-10 06:39

Paul roos has more springboks than any other school even if you combine grey bloem and pe they still have marginally more . and trust me its not because of a cheque book. it dates back to first rugby tour of springboks. but grey bloem has produced most springbok in modern era by only one more than Paul roos

  • ChrisinOz294 - 2012-07-09 23:33

No they have the opportunity to strengthen their team.

  • jan.scheepers.927 - 2012-07-10 09:30

What is the problem? Morne will still kick and anybody can chase and hope for the best.

  • jack.mcgurkin - 2012-07-10 09:37

A bulls supporter must have thought of this headline... give me a break!

  • cory.van.wyk - 2012-07-10 10:59

fact is the bulls are the only south african team to win the super 15... show some respect people

      francel.vaneeden - 2012-07-10 15:24

@cory.van.wyk You can't be a Bull supporter cause you got brains to think not a scull off emptiness. Well done. If you are a Bulls supporter still well done and then you have earned my respect.

  • francel.vaneeden - 2012-07-10 15:17

tom.tardis 1993 Super 10 Transvaal 20 Auckland 17 and you said the Bulls are the only South African team to have won a "Super Rugby" title.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 00:19

Thanks for clearing that up chump, one more than the stormers then

      cory.van.wyk - 2012-07-11 12:26
