Etzebeth in doubt for Stormers

Cape Town - Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth is unlikely to be risked in the Stormers’ next Super Rugby clash against the Cheetahs due to an ankle injury.

The Stormers play the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15:00.

Etzebeth missed last Saturday's match against the Lions. Stormers coach Allister Coetzee said Etzebeth was ‘touch-and-go', according to the Keo website.

Meanwhile, wing Danie Poolman injured his hamstring in the match against the Lions and will be sidelined for at least 10 days, but his layoff wil be offset by the return from flu of both Bryan Habana and Joe Pietersen.

Utility forward Rynhardt Elstadt will also return after his suspension while prop Steven Kitshoff is another who will be back after his stint with the Baby Boks in their Junior World Championship campaign.

The Stormers currently top the South African Conference standings by four points from the Bulls who play the Sharks in Durban on Friday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
