Ebersohn dreams of Test rugby

Cape Town - Western Force flyhalf Sias Ebersohn says he has a burning desire to play Test rugby and wouldn't mind if it's not for his country of birth.

The 25-year-old is having a stellar season for this year's Super Rugby surprise packages, who have won seven out of 10 games and currently sit in a healthy fifth spot on the overall Super Rugby log and in with a real shot at making the playoffs.

His form has led to some pundits calling for an elevation to the Springbok ranks, while he could also come into consideration to play for the Wallabies at the end of next year - at which point he will have spent the mandatory three years in Australia.

Ebersohn, in an interview with the Volskblad website, said that while he would love to play for the Springboks, he wouldn't turn down the opportunity if the Wallabies came knocking.

"I have a dream to play international rugby. At the moment the Springboks are the only team I am eligible to play for. If they put a Bok jersey in front of me, I'd never say no, but I also wouldn't turn down a Wallaby jersey."

Ebersohn's form has also prompted his former team, the Cheetahs, to try lure him back to Bloemfontein.

He kicked 13 points when the Force beat the Cheetahs 23-13 at the Free State Stadium last weekend, but a return for Ebersohn to the City of Roses remains a long shot at this stage.

"I am happy at the Force and take it game by game. If they later come with an (official) offer, then I may pay more attention to it, but for now I'm only focusing on my game at the Force," said Ebersohn.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
