Double injury blow for Lions

Cape Town - The Lions have received a blow ahead of their match against the Kings with loose forward Willie Britz and scrumhalf Michael Bondesio out injured for several weeks.

According tot he Rugby365 website, Britz, one of the star players in their three matches so far this year, suffered torn ankle ligaments and could be sidelined from four to 12 weeks.

"We are awaiting results after scans to determine the exact extent of the injury," Lions coach Johan Ackermann said.

Bondesio pulled a calf muscle in their 32-38 loss to the Bulls on the weekend and will be sidelined for two to three weeks.

Ackermann said they will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face the Kings at home on Saturday, a game which is billed as a grudge match after the Kings were named as the Lions' replacements in Super Rugby.

"One of our goals was to be competitive in all the games and play attractive, entertaining rugby - to make our sponsors and supporters proud," said Ackermann.

"We had a bit of a hiccup (against the Bulls), where we did not execute everything we wanted to and conceded points too easily.

"Now we want to get the campaign back on track and hopefully get a win (on Saturday)."
