Deysel back to face Stormers

2011-04-28 12:17

Durban - The Sharks have been bolstered by the inclusion of flank Jean Deysel who will be making his much-anticipated return from injury having been named on the bench for Saturday’s Vodacom Super Rugby clash with the Stormers in Cape Town.

Kick-off is at 19:10.

According to Sharks website editor, Mike Marnewick, in changes from last week’s side, Keegan Daniel starts for Jacques Botes who went over on his ankle against the Hurricanes. Botes will be rested and this opens the door for Deysel who has been returning to match fitness for the Sharks XV after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Jannie du Plessis and Eugene van Staden swap positions while brother Bismarck returns to the side and will play off the bench following the shoulder injury that kept him out of last Saturday’s game with captain John Smit playing at hooker.

In the final change, Odwa Ndungane returns after playing off the bench, with Lwazi Mvovo named among the replacements, joined by lock Alistair Hargreaves who is over the injury that kept him out of action for two matches.

“We’re looking forward to this game and I’m sure they’re looking forward to having us,” said coach John Plumtree. “I’m sure everyone is looking forward to watching it. It’s one of those contests between two sides who are both going well right now.”

Having lost to the Stormers in the first round match, Plumtree added that lessons were learned out of that clash. “You get more lessons out of a loss than a win. We had a pretty good look at that and there are things that have to change and the way we play, and we’ll have to implement those strategies.”

With the squad in good shape both in terms of individual player form and healthy, Plumtree added that he had some nice selection headaches. “It’s great when everyone is fit, it means I have some choices. When I get into a situation where everyone is playing really well, and my bench is strong, then that’s where we are strong as a group.”

What a game this is going to be!! Should be even more interesting with the roles reversed this time in terms of the Stormers missing their number 1 flyhalf.

      Ghost - 2011-04-28 12:39

      Reversed result as well?????????

      Rob van den Heuvel - 2011-04-28 12:42

Gonna be a big one! I thin Grant may just make it on the field come match day, too much riding on this one for him to miss out.

      Whatever - 2011-04-28 23:51

And van Aswegen their no 2 flyhalf

  • Anneleen - 2011-04-28 12:40

    Best of luck SHARKS!!!

  • EXBULL - 2011-04-28 12:43

The best the Sharks can hope for is to get through this without any injuries, but a win ??? I doubt it.

      Ghost - 2011-04-28 12:50

Hope you glue to your Tv,Im backing the Sharks at Newlands

  • Kaapie - 2011-04-28 13:03

Stomers should attack down the middle.. both Terblanche and Bosman have shown defensive frailties..

  • SportDoctor - 2011-04-28 13:08

Massive game this is going to be!!!!!!!!!

  • Mike@CapeT - 2011-04-28 13:20

Much more satisfying beating a full strength team than a weakened one :)!

      Ditto

  • Marius Swart - 2011-04-28 13:40

      Guz - 2011-04-28 14:24

@Marius, there were plenty of well wishes from stormers fans...you very conveniently choose to ignore those you plonker. I wanted to re-arrange your face, but I see nature already took care of it.

      Marius Swart - 2011-04-28 22:14

@Guz.En jy wonder waarom mense nie van jou hou nie.Bietjie op jou senuwees sien ek en groot meneer agter jou rekenaar.Word asb wakker en kom agter hierdie is net game nie oorlog.

  • Chadwick - 2011-04-28 14:22

Egh, Stormers arent looking AS good as they did in the beginning. Sharks are on fire at the moment. Home advantage to Stormers though and they just have this annoying way of beating other teams when they shouldv'e actually lost. Like the Bulls beginning of the competition. We all knew the situations they're in now was going to happen this season, it was inevitable. I'm shouting for my Sharks this weekend! Goodluck to Stormers aswel.

      Guz - 2011-04-28 14:28

What? not looking as good? Pffft, I suppose no team will look good on your black and white TV.

  • werner.coetzer - 2011-04-28 14:28

Ek dink dit gaan so ongelooflik close wees... as n Shark supporter hoop ek ten minste close in ons guns.

What a bench to have!!!!! Except maybe Adrian Jacobs. I already see Alberts and Deysel running over a couple of the mountaingoats in the second half with Bismarck right behind them. Yummie. The rumours that Gavin Henson is coming to play for the Sharks for a year has also been heard by a couple of my friends in London. That sounds interesting.

      gooinat - 2011-04-28 14:37

Sharks must be desperate to sign a tosser like Henson.Lostpost, don't get your hopes up to high about Deysel and Alberts,Elstadt is eagerly waiting for them.

      Outpost - 2011-04-28 14:53

Not as desperate as the Mountaingoats was signing Brian Banana. Now this guy had his better part running down his mom's leg. And his dad yelled .................. gooinat. Remember Patrick Lambie's hand-off on Schalk Burger in the Currie Cup final last year. Priceless. Worth watching again and again and again and again.

      gooinat - 2011-04-28 14:58

Seens as though you love to dwell on the past what was the score in Durban a couple of weeks ago?????

      Outpost - 2011-04-28 15:00

With a useless ex Blue Bull missing 5 kicks at posts and our beloved Lambie missing ??????

      gooinat - 2011-04-28 15:18

Hey boet,I can't help Straueli buys crap like Potgieter, anyway goodluck for Saturday:)

      Outpost - 2011-04-28 15:39

May the rugby be exciting, the referee fair and may the best team win.

      gooinat - 2011-04-28 15:48

      Amen to that:)

      Mauritz - 2011-04-28 17:24

Outpost boet. I'm not entirely sure if Henson might end-up at The Sharks, but he is perhaps a better option than Bosman at centre. I mean Bosman didn't do anything wrong, but he didn't do anything right. The Sharks also said they are interested in signing Frans Steyn for next year, who will doubtfully replace Terblanche if he probably retires at the end of the season. But I doubt anything I have written.

With Lambie back at pivot the Sharks will be a different tank of sharks. Yes, it's a team game, but a gem gives added sparkle. I like Elstadt and hope he will continue his impressive form. If he does, then surely PDiv will have to take note?!? However, Deyzel, Alberts, Bismarck.... Mouthwatering. May we feast on quality rugby that will help PDiv to step up to reality and not wait for the Slumberlings to start playing again. Up the Sharks!!
