De Jongh's chance to shine

Cape Town - Juan de Jongh could find himself back in the Stormers starting midfield in this year's Super Rugby competition.

The Springbok was a substitute for the latter part of Western Province's Currie Cup campaign last year, with coach  Allister Coetzee opting to pick Damian de Allende as Jean de Villiers's centre partner.

However, a lack of depth at wing could open the door for De Jongh to start in 2014.

Cheslin Kolbe has been ruled out with a knee injury and with Bryan Habana and Gerhard van den Heever heading overseas, the Stormers' wing stocks appear to be quite low. They are reportedly in search of a big wing to fill the void but no new recent additions have been added.

This could see the big and physical De Allende move to the wing, opening a spot in midfield for De Jongh.

"My focus is to work hard in pre-season and to build my confidence with good performances in the warm-up games," De Jongh told Die Burger's website.

The Stormers will play three pre-season games before starting their season-proper against the Lions in Johannesburg on February 22.

Stormers' 2014 pre-season fixtures:

Saturday, February 1:
Bulls v Stormers, Peter Mokaba Stadium (Polokwane) - 17:00

Friday, February 7:
Southern Kings v Stormers, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (Port Elizabeth) - 19:00

Saturday, February 15:
Boland v Stormers, Boland Stadium (Wellington) - kick-off TBC

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
