Cronje's Stormers tour over

2011-05-20 15:07

Auckland - Lionel Cronje’s Australasian tour is over after he injured a medial ligament in his knee during the Stormers' 28-26 Vodacom Super Rugby victory over the Blues on Friday.

The Stormers flyhalf will return to Cape Town for treatment to the injury and to assess the full extent of the damage.

Cronje was taken off in the 23rd minute of the match after sustaining the injury and was replaced by scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenage.

Despite the backline reshuffle, the Stormers went on to win the match after overturning a 16-point half-time deficit.

The loss of the young flyhalf adds to the Stormers' injury woes after they lost Gary van Aswegen, also to a knee injury, and Peter Grant, who is still recovering from an ankle injury.

The Stormers have yet to name a replacement, but are expected to do so on Monday.

Who needs him when we have Duvenage, only jokes, wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see you on the field soon, will Kurt Coleman be called up????????????

      WPBEFONK - 2011-05-20 15:31

They wil have to send kurt or dimitri katrikulus? What do you think of Dimitr?

      gooinat - 2011-05-20 15:35

Dimitri is deadlly accurate with the boot and had a helluva final against Tukkies,Coleman I am not to familiar with him, maybe Saffa can shed somelight as she is very clued up.

      The_Fox - 2011-05-20 15:41

Grant will most probably be fit for the Brumbies game and Kurt will be joining them in Aus as back-up. Elgar Watts is another option.

      Durasmart - 2011-05-20 15:42

@wpbefonk. Rumours have it that Dimitri will be joining the Kings.

      watalife - 2011-05-20 15:44

@WPBEFONK, Now thats a good player waiting for the opportunity and the day it comes he will show his worth. He played so well in the Varsity cup but should they not hold back on him until he plays some provincial rugby and gets some exposure at a higher level?

      Juggernaut - 2011-05-20 15:51

Coleman is dead in the head.......completely useless and far too slow.

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-20 16:03

@Gooinat - ahhhhhh, c'mon, you know I am a Lionel groupie.....a top drawer one. The numero uno LC groupie. I am devastated by this injury. :(

      gooinat - 2011-05-20 16:11

@Saffa,I know you are and I am only teazing about him,I wish him a speedy recovery and we do need him, even though he is not my favourite.:)

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-20 16:32

@gooinat - The truly miraculous thing is: We have lost van Aswegen, Cronje and Grant (for now). We will send young Kurt over, and we have Duvenage who is more than capable..... Now: can you imagine a few other local unions if they were in this position? Seriously - we should be thanking the stars :) Today I am ECSTATIC that we let Hougaard go to the Bulls and kept Duvenage :)

      CK - 2011-05-20 17:11

It is so nice to be able to read some decent comments for a change, not a lot of mud slinging, provinsialism and racism. thaks for above comments guys.

      Lloyd - 2011-05-20 17:23

      It's a pleasure CK.

  • WPBEFONK - 2011-05-20 15:25

I am a STORMERS. This is a CRISIS, but I'm sure our Braintrust will sort it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Two Cents - 2011-05-20 15:47

Crisis for the Stormers? how many teams are suffering from mini injury crises'? this format is causing a bit of a headacke for coaches and national selector in the southern strongholds (aus,nz,sa). i would like to see what katrikulus (say that 10 times fast) in the super comp. i distributes well and his goal & positional kicking is also very good. defence might come up short.

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-20 16:04

Nope, Not Dimitri. Kurt Coleman will fly over.

  • SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-20 15:25

Kurt Coleman will on a plane before the sun even sets I reckon!!! Bad luck young Lionel :( I am distressed.

      WPBEFONK - 2011-05-20 15:32

SAFFA, I think Kurt is already on his way...

      The_Fox - 2011-05-20 15:43

I feel sorry for Lionel but DAMN IT boy, sort out your goalkicking..

      Brannas - 2011-05-21 01:51

@SAFFA. When in Rome Stupid twerp

  • Lloyd - 2011-05-20 15:25

To all my fans out there: As from tomorrow, regardless of the Bulls/Sharks result, I will probably be quiet for the rest of the weekend because of laptop issues, long hours at McDonald's and no transport to the internet cafe. Goodluck to both teams.

      gooinat - 2011-05-20 15:29

Halleluja brother, praise the Lord, miracles do happen!!!!!!!!!!!!

      WPBEFONK - 2011-05-20 15:33

Go To Hell!!!!!!!! Don't come with excuses, you know your BB team will loose tomorrow. Nou wil jy kastig jou labtop afsit..

      MrMojoRising - 2011-05-20 15:36

Haha, I'll take the credit for being the first one to refer to Lloyd as a McDonalds employee . . . glad you still use it Lloyd!

      GILLBERT - 2011-05-20 15:37

kan nie glo jys oor naweke op die site nie lol...... die stromer onder steuners gan n maakie kort wees op die site.... hulle gan niemand he om mee te praat nie

      watalife - 2011-05-20 15:40

You dont have fans dont get ahead of yourself now.

      Cadder - 2011-05-20 15:42

Is this a rare admission that the Bulls' Super season may be over tomorrow evening?? C'mon Lloyd, we need you here! Who else is going to give us something to comment about! Good luck for tomorrow's game - it would suit the Stormers if the Bulls win, but it would be a tough game for sure.

      Lloyd - 2011-05-20 15:43

GILLBERT ek is gewoonlik, maar my laptop (of labtop soos BALSAK sê) het vanoggend gekak so ek gaan n bietjie sukkel. Die Stormers fans sal o.k wees. Hulle praat maar onder mekaar.

      sparkster - 2011-05-20 16:06

Lloyd is off to the Ballet with Brannas!!

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-20 16:07

@Lloyd - I will send send smoke signals to from the other side of 'skuld buld'. Climb to the top of the hill, walk a little way, then peer off direction Durbanville. You don't need your laptop - I can still insult you via smoke signals.

      gooinat - 2011-05-20 16:16

@Saffa,makes two of us,I also live out that way,Lloyd one smoke signal means pick a finger!!!!!!!!

      The_Fox - 2011-05-20 16:16

Lloyd you have less fans than your idol Steve Hofmeyr. Go join a sect in texas.

      Lloyd - 2011-05-20 16:22

Good one SAFFA. @ The Fox. David Koresh's 'Branch Davidians' doesn't excist anymore otherwise I would have joined them. The rest are all just pretenders and I have no interest in them. On the other hand Charles Manson's family would have been another good option.

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-20 16:34

@Gooinat - we are neighbours. The scary thing is: Lloyd lives in Plattekloof.......cue: Jaws music.

      Kaapie - 2011-05-20 17:05

When you play wif yourself it's called laptop issues

  • Smash-Grab - 2011-05-20 15:27

He must have had this injury from the beginning of the tournament, cause he just misses the posts to often when he kicks.

  • Anneleen - 2011-05-20 15:34

Stormers proved today that they can indeed overcome a crisis...speedy recovery to their player.

      gooinat - 2011-05-20 15:39

Goodluck for tomorrow,I am only supporting the Bulls for the purpose of the log(still can't believe I am saying this)hope this method to my madness works:)

      The_Fox - 2011-05-20 15:45

Yip, and not just one crisis. WP Rugby has such unbelievable depth.

      Anneleen - 2011-05-20 15:46

@Gooinat...good to hear from you. At least you are honest! Well done to your team...great comeback!

      GILLBERT - 2011-05-20 15:49

good point fox wp rugby is looking healthy at the moment will for the foreseeable future

      Anneleen - 2011-05-20 15:57

      @The_Fox and GILLBERT...Stormers=Cape Epics...enjoy!!!

      The_Fox - 2011-05-20 16:19

Agnee man Gooinat. Jy stel my teleur.. NET NIE DIE BULLS NIE :-0

      gooinat - 2011-05-20 16:23

@Foxie,I have no choice my buddy,a draw between the two will be just as good with no bonus points either side but a Bulls win will give us more breathing space.

      The_Fox - 2011-05-21 11:17

Agreed Gooinat, enjoy the game this afternoon mate.

  • Andries - 2011-05-20 16:22

What happened to Elgar Watts? Played in the Stormers warm-up games, and didn't do much wrong. Wouldn't he be a logical choice as replacement?

  • Semperfi - 2011-05-20 17:15

I think it was a stroke of luck for el Stormers, coz Lionel was bad man...he looked like a deer in the headlights out there but hey.....hope he recovers to help y'all out.

  • Ampie - 2011-05-20 17:19

    Luke Watson is also available.

      Ampie - 2011-05-20 17:53

As die Stormers vir Januarie op skrumskakel kan speel kan Luke seker maar losskakel wees?

      MrMojoRising - 2011-05-20 18:42

      Howzitekse - 2011-05-20 21:02

Nee man Ampie.
