Coetzee to meet with ref Berry

Cape Town - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee says he will meet with Stuart Berry to discuss his side's discipline after the referee heavily punished them in their Super Rugby win over the Lions at Newlands last Saturday.

Despite winning the game 18-3, the Stormers were penalised 20 times by Berry, while Deon Fourie was also yellow-carded.

Michael Rhodes was also handed an off-field yellow card for a dangerous tackle.

While some of Berry's decisions might have been debatable, Coetzee admitted his side's discipline was not up to scratch.

He said a great deal of time was spent on looking at discipline issues during a video session on Monday.

"Discipline is of cardinal importance to us but we conceded 20 penalties and then on-field and off-field yellow cards," Coetzee told SAPA.

"We dish out punishment to players who are guilty and we cannot play at this level with 14 players."

Coetzee, though, said it was imperative that he also meets with Berry to avoid future misunderstandings.

The coach told Die Burger's website that some of Berry's decisions were "debatable".

He said he will ask Berry to explain some of the decisions so he could carry the message out to his players.

The Stormers tackle the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday (17:05 kick-off). Craig Joubert will be the referee.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
