Coetzee: Groom is our No 1 scrumhalf

Cape Town - Nic Groom is likely to return to the Stormers starting team for their clash against the Cheetahs in place of Louis Schreuder.

Schreuder started at scrumhalf in last week’s 31-15 win over the Rebels at Newlands and while he had an adequate game, coach Allister Coetzee says Groom remains the number one choice for the No 9 jersey.

“Groomie has done nothing wrong in order to be dropped,” Coetzee told Netwerk24.

“Our plan was to ensure that both of them remain sharp (through rotation) and I’m very happy that Louis' form was so good despite not having played much rugby.

“It would have been nice to give him another chance, but Groomie was the guy in possession of the jersey and you have to respect that.”

The Stormers will name their team for Saturday’s clash later on Thursday.

Kick-off at Newlands is scheduled for 17:05.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
