Canberra - Brumbies captain Matt Giteau says his side must maintain discipline or Rebels flyhalf Danny Cipriani will punish them in their Super Rugby match in Melbourne on Friday.
Giteau says Cipriani, capped seven times for England, has a strong kicking game and could convert indiscretions from afar.
"Discipline will be a big thing for us,’’ Giteau said in Canberra on Monday.
‘‘He is able to kick from easily his half or from inside their half.’’
In the previous match between the playmakers, Giteau made England pay for their ill-discipline in kicking six penalties in a total 20 points in Australia’s 28-14 win at Twickenham in 2008.
Giteau said the Rebels’ marquee man was a ‘‘different’’ type of player.
‘‘He is quite creative,’’ he said.
‘‘He kicks well off both feet.’’
Cipriani replaced James Hilgendorf early in the Rebels’ 43-0 loss to the Waratahs last Friday.
Hilgendorf (shoulder) and flanker Hoani MacDonald (hand) have already been ruled out for Melbourne, while the Brumbies are unchanged for their first match at AAMI Park.
Brumbies coach Andy Friend said he was happy to build consistency with the same line-up for a third straight match.
The selection follows a 21-21 draw in a trial against the Hurricanes and last Saturday’s 28-20 competition win against the Chiefs.
Friend said developing combinations between the players without distractions was a positive for his side.
‘‘Continuity/combinations are important, so we are pleased that we got through the game with no real injury concerns,’’ he said.
‘‘It is always good to put the same 15 out there.’’
Fitness concerns over Brumbies prop Dan Palmer and halfback Josh Valentine were allayed on Monday.
Backrower Stephen Hoiles has until later in week to overcome a sore Achilles with Peter Kimlin on call as his replacement for the second round match.
‘‘We just have to wait until the specialist has given his report and we’ll make a decision from there,’’ Friend said.
He said he would not let his side take too much from their opponents’ drubbing by the Waratahs.
‘‘Complacency - that’s always a fear in sport,’’ Friend said.
‘‘We will certainly be talking about that.’’
