Chiefs roll out big guns

Hamilton - The table-topping Chiefs will ensure that a full strength outfit is named as they head to Brisbane to take on the defending champion Reds.

According to the allblacks.com website, Liam Messam and Brodie Retallick were given a breather against John Mitchell’s men, the Chiefs' third South African opponent in a month, and will play their fourth Australian Conference rivals this season (having already beaten the Force, Waratahs and Brumbies) when they line up against the Reds at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

Sono Taumalolo and Mahonri Schwalger were also spared a full match last weekend, playing off the bench.

The inform Retallick, picked in many quarters as a potential All Blacks bolter, will return to the side alongside his fellow tight five enforcers Taumalolo and Schwalger - although the latter is embroiled with an engaging tussle with Hika Elliot.

Messam, who has been recovering from rib damage, will be fit to play, after coach Dave Rennie revealed that his All Blacks flank could have been named against the Lions if absolutely necessary.

Backs such as Aaron Cruden and Sonny Bill Williams have clocked up plenty of minutes so far this season, but any thought of rest for their in-form back division will be put aside in the crucial clash against the reigning champions.

Kick-off in Sunday's match between the Reds and Chiefs is at 08:10 SA time.
