Cape Town - The Super Rugby defending champion Chiefs have beaten the Highlanders in their all-New Zealand derby in Hamilton on Friday.
The Chiefs won 19-7 after leading 13-7 at half-time.
The Chiefs scored a try through centre Tim Nanai-Williams, while fullback Gareth Anscombe added the conversion as well as four penalties.
The Highlanders replied with a try by scrumhalf Aaron Smith and a conversion by flyhalf Colin Slade.
The Chiefs picked up four points for their victory to cement their spot atop the New Zealand Conference.
The Highlanders left empty-handed and remained bottom of both the NZ Conference and Overall standings.
In next weekend's Round 7 action, the Chiefs host the Blues in Mount Maunganui (Saturday, March 30 at 08:35), while the Highlanders welcome the Reds to Dunedin (Friday, March 29 at 08:35).
