Wellington - Former All Blacks captain Tana Umaga has been dropped from the Chiefs squad for round two of the Vodacom Super Rugby season this weekend.

The 37-year-old centre returned to Super Rugby after a four-year break in the Chiefs' opening 28-20 defeat by the Brumbies last weekend but was replaced by Dwayne Sweeney for Friday's game against the Highlanders.

Stephen Donald, the regular back-up to flyhalf Dan Carter in the All Blacks team, was also dropped for the match along with his halfback partner Brendon Leonard although both are retained among the replacements.

Number eight Fritz Lee was ruled out because of a knee injury he picked up in the match in Canberra, where the Chiefs were 18-3 down at half-time before battling back to take the match to a close finish.

"We are keen to build on our second half performance from last week's game as we travel to our second away match at Carisbrook," coach Ian Foster told the team's website.

Good, dirty mongrel spear tackling thug.

      FactFile - 2011-02-23 12:01

U a HATER! Tana is great! I think they probably did it as a security measure against NZ teams - if you take last wknds encounters into account - to minimize injury. NZR teams plays absolute great rugby and tackle as if there's no tomorrow... So just shut up and show respect!

Good on you FactFile, Umaga is one of the greats! Every player makes a k@k tackle in his career

Umanga is the most over rated player in the AB tema. Without him they will be a lot stronger. And he is a repeat offender, lots of dirty tackles. High, late, shoulder...... you name it. He deserved much worse than he got!

@ fact file, grow a pair son. "NZL are playing such good rugby and they are resting umanga cos they dont wanna hurt the players?" you watch too much soccer mate, this is rugby, then again that might be the reason they havent won a world cup since the 80's cos they think we playing touch.....
