Chiefs opt for co-captains

Cape Town - Two-time defending Super Rugby champions, the Chiefs, will again have two captains during this year's Super Rugby competition.

According to the NZ Herald website, flyhalf Aaron Cruden and loose forward Liam Messam have been named as co-captains for the 2014 campaign.

It will be the third season in a row the Chiefs have opted for co-captions with Messam and Craig Clarke, who left to play club rugby Ireland in the off-season, sharing the leadership role previously.

The Chiefs will play their first pre-season match against the Reds in Toowoomba on Saturday, before heading to Rotorua on Valentine's Day to play the Blues in Rotorua.

They start their season-proper away to the Crusaders on February 21.
