Cheetahs target local success

Cape Town - The Cheetahs are eager to improve their record against fellow South African sides in Super Rugby, says skipper Adriaan Strauss.

The men from Bloemfontein are on a record four-game winning streak after wins over the Highlanders, Waratahs, Force and Rebels.

However, their record against local teams is woeful, with the team only winning one out of eight matches against South African opposition last season.

Their next four games are local derbies, at home against the Stormers on Saturday, the Bulls in Pretoria (April 13), Sharks in Durban (April 20) and Kings in Bloemfontein (April 27).

The Cheetahs have also lost their last seven games against the Stormers, with their last win coming in 2007. But for Strauss and his men it is a challenge they are eager to overcome to their recent winning run.

"The guys are very positive and he we really hope we can change the statistics (against the Stormers) a bit," Strauss told the Volksblad website.

"The last four wins give us momentum - and hopefully we have a big crowd on Saturday to support us."

The clash at the Free State Stadium kicks off at 17:05 on Saturday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
