Cape Town - Cheetahs replacement lock Andries Ferreira has been cited for alleged foul play during their Super Rugby clash against the Force in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Ferreira, 22, is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) (Dangerous Tackling: A player must not tackle an opponent dangerously - A tackle around the neck or head of an opponent is dangerous play), when he entered a breakdown to contest for the ball and bound onto Force No 8 Matt Hodgson around the neck.
Ferreira then drove forward through the breakdown and flung Hodgson to the ground so he contacted the ground with his head, neck and shoulder. The incident occurred in the 76th minute of the match, which the Cheetahs won 17-13.
Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Mike Heron.
