Carr to fight for Stormers spot

Cape Town - Nizaam Carr knows it will be tough to find a spot in the Stormers' starting loose trio this year, but is prepared to fight hard.

Carr can play No 8 and flank, but will find it hard to start with Springboks Duane Vermeulen, Schalk Burger and Siya Kolisi expected to form the starting combination.

The other loose forward contenders are Deon Fourie, Rynhardt Elstadt, Michael Rhodes and youngster Sikumbuzo Notshe.

Carr said he will use not being part of the latter part of WP's Currie Cup campaign late last year as motivation.

"It was sad but I had to make peace with it," he told Die Burger's website.

"But it was Boks who came back from the Rugby Championship. They would have good reason to feel it's unfair if they were suddenly left out.

"All credit to Duane as well. He is playing superb rugby and set a good example to me. I've learnt a lot from him. There's no bad feeling between me and the coaches because of their decision. It's part of the game."

Carr provides the option to replace Vermeulen if need be or at blindside flank.
