Melbourne - Melbourne Rebels lock Adam Byrnes has been cited for alleged eye gouging in the team's Super Rugby match against the Waratahs in Melbourne, SANZAR said on Saturday.
Byrnes is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship - making contact with the eye, SANZAR said.
Referee Bryce Lawrence issued an on-field white card in Friday's game and put the incident on report for a citing commissioner review following a complaint from Waratahs captain Daniel Halangahu.
Halangahu told the referee that his Waratahs team-mate Tom Carter had allegedly been eye gouged during the first half of the match won 35-19 by the Waratahs.
