Bulls wait on Bok duo

Pretoria - Springboks Dean Greyling and Zane Kirchner will know after fitness tests on Wednesday if they will be able to play for the Bulls against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Fullback Kirchner has recovered from a finger operation, but is still suffering tenderness following the removal of a screw, whilst prop Greyling limped off the field during their 18-16 win over the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.

Dewald Potgieter, Akona Ndungane and Louis Fouché will also only return to the training field on Wednesday.

It was also reported from the Springbok training squad assembly in Durban that Flip van der Merwe and Juandré Kruger did not train due to niggles, but will remain with the training squad until Tuesday, when all the players return to their franchises.

The long term injury list sees regulars Paul Willemse (eight weeks) and Cornell Hess (six months) on a long term recovery following knee operations.

Wiaan Liebenberg (AC shoulder, three weeks), Travis Ismaiel (shoulder, three weeks) and Frans Venter (groin, two weeks) will be back sooner.

The Bulls currently top the South African conference with nine wins from 12 outings, and sit second on the overall log, trailing defending champions the Chiefs by two points.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
