Bulls power past Hurricanes

Cape Town - The Bulls thrashed the visiting Hurricanes to take over the top spot in the SA Conference Super Rugby standings at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday.

The Bulls won 48-14 after leading 27-0 at half-time.

The Bulls scored six tries through centres JJ Engelbrecht and Wynand Olivier, flank Deon Stegmann, wing Akona Ndungane, prop Dean Greyling and replacement back Lionel Mapoe. Flyhalf Morne Steyn was successful with five conversions as well as two penalties for a personal haul of 16 points. Replacement Louis Fouche also added a conversion.

The Hurricanes replied with tries by scrumhalf TJ Perenara (2) and two conversions by flyhalf Beauden Barrett.

The Bulls picked up a full-house of five points for their victory to move to the top of the South African Conference and into third place in the Overall standings.

The Hurricanes left empty-handed and stayed fourth and 11th in the New Zealand Conference and Overall log, respectively.

In next weekend's Round 13 action, the Bulls will enjoy a bye, while the Hurricanes travel to Bloemfontein to face the Cheetahs (Friday, May 10 at 19:10).
