Bulls brace for powerful Stormers scrum
Cape Town - Hooker Adriaan Strauss says the Bulls front rankers are eager to impress against the powerful Stormers front row when the teams clash in a Super Rugby clash at Newlands on Saturday.
The Bulls have the luxury of selecting Springboks Strauss, Dean Greyling, Marcel van der Merwe and Trevor Nyakane, but they will be underdogs in the scrum department.
The Stormers boast the most impressive scrummaging unit in the competition this year, with props Steven Kitshoff, Vincent Koch and Frans Malherbe wreaking havoc.
It was their powerful scrum that helped them to a 13-6 victory over the Force in Perth last weekend. It was not the best day at the office for the Capetonians, but they received a penalty try after another powerful scrum which proved the difference on the day.
However, the Bulls are braced for the battle, Strauss insisted.
"They are formidable, but I think our scrum has also improved. It's a section of our play that we're working very hard on and we need this challenge (against the Stormers) to take the next step up. We're eager to prove our worth," Strauss told Netwerk24.
Kick-off for Saturday's derby at Newlands kicks off at 19:10.
