Botha inspired by Jean, Spies

Pretoria - Bulls loose forward Arno Botha says he gains inspiration from Springbok captain Jean de Villiers and team-mate Pierre Spies.

"Jean is a guy I really look up to. While I haven't spent much time with him over the past year, his story is really inspirational," Botha told Myplayers.co.za.

"He's successfully made a comeback from two serious injuries, and several minor ones during his career, but he has not allowed that to affect his career. He managed to work hard through the tough times, which paved the way to all the success and achievements he has accomplished.

"The fact that he has been able to surpass 100 Tests is something that motivates me, and I hope I can play as many games for the Springboks one day.

"At a young age, I've suffered two serious injuries already, but hopefully, like Jean, I can overcome the hard times and achieve something great during my career. I wish Jean well as he hopes to recover in time for the World Cup."

Botha also had kind words to say about his provincial captain.

"A guy who has been a mentor during my career is Pierre Spies. We've spent a lot of time together as we've trained alongside each other during our rehab.

"Pierre is a great guy, on and off the field, and there's plenty of excitement as we will both make our comebacks during Super Rugby. He has given me great advice over the past year, and has emphasised the importance of life after rugby too.

"I am already involved in a few business opportunities, which I will continue to work on during my career. It is important to have things lined up in your post-career retirement plans."
