Blues' Rene Ranger cited

2012-03-11 10:02

Pretoria - Rene Ranger of the Blues has been cited for alleged foul play during their Super Rugby match against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Ranger is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous tackling. A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously, when he made late and dangerous contact with Bulls wing Bjorn Basson in the 79th minute of the match in Pretoria.

Referee Steve Walsh issued a yellow card and also put the incident on report for review by the SANZAR citing commissioner by issuing a white card.

Upon further review of the match footage, the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR duty judicial officer Mike Heron.

This thug is a pathetic excuse for a human being. He's a disgrace to the sport.

i did nt do research, but since is a penalty, 79min, did nt the bulls had to get penalty advantage on half line...if the attacking team gets penalty advantage , there will be play for the penalty even if time is over,... as for a kicking out there will be no extra time so they must tap and go... clearly the end wistle blew before the hooter went, so the 50 meter penalty as steve said coul not take place since time is over was infact wrong... it was 50meter penalty, never the less, bulls deserved to loose this one.. in u play like grade ones, then u must loose like them.. sorry bulls, better luck next time.. someone pls help me with that law, of penalty advandage in over time, must the penalty be played or not. tyvm all, good luck stormers

A try or conversion ends the game after the time have expired.

      Lynette - 2012-03-11 22:34

Schaun yes, a penalty should have been awarded, but what was the Ref;s reason for not awarding it?

  • Neels - 2012-03-11 11:25

Kan iemand vir my se hoe die Stormers 12 'log' punte het? Hulle het dan net twee wedstryde gespeel en geen bonuspunte verdien nie.

      Schaun - 2012-03-11 11:30

Ballet is also a contact sport - maybe Basson must try it because he is not a wing - big speed no puff !!! Ranger I hope they ban you mate - 4 weeks will do !!

a Brief moment of stupidity... a player of his class should not be playing this foul. he has been cited and im sure he will be punnsihed for it. some of our south african players have done some damage to others in the past as well and they were dealt with. what Ranger did was dumb and could have caused serious injury, but by calling Ranger names is not solving anything. a lot was said in the past about Bakkies's Headbut on Jimmy Cowen. The game should be played fair at all times, its not an achievement when a player injures another. Rugby might be a physical game but there is no room for bad sportsmanship.

@Neels, Die stormers het n Bye gehad, en jy kry 4 punte vir n Bye!

  • Francois - 2012-03-12 07:41

daardie duikslag was binne die reels om n drie te verhoed; ranger het sy arms gebruik; dit was nie hoog nie; dit was nie laat nie; dit was nie vuil nie! rugby is the name of the game; kom ons beweeg aan!

      Wayne - 2012-03-12 08:15

francois j die enigste een wat die game ken........ook nie probleem gesien nie dis n kontak sport en als was binne die reels!!!!!

Skhona. Rene Ranger is actually a Maori boy born and raised in Wellsford, north of Auckland. Your rascist ravings do you no credit and perpetuate the unfortunate image the rest of yopur country is trying to move away from. Ignorance is not an excuse.
