Benjamin out for S15 season

Cape Town - Cheetahs wing Rayno Benjamin looks set to miss the rest of the Super Rugby season after he picked up a shoulder injury in their 33-39 loss to the Chiefs in Bloemfontein.

It was initially hoped that Benjamin's injury might not be too severe but Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské told Volksblad he doubts whether Benjamin will play Super Rugby again this year.

It's only the Cheetahs' second big injury this season after wing Dusty Noble injured his knee ligaments in their opening game against the Lions in Johannesburg.

"Rayno's shoulder injury is worse than expected. He dislocated his shoulder and is not expected to play Super Rugby again this year," said Drotské.

With Benjamin and Noble out, Drotské will probably call up Cameron Jacobs from the Free State XV's Vodacom Cup side.

Jacobs made his Super Rugby debut on their recent Australasian tour but was later replaced by Benjamin.

Another option is Rocco Jansen who played for Griquas in the past weekend's Vodacom Cup. They could also play Philip Snyman at wing. Snyman is actually a centre but replaced Benjamin at wing against the Chiefs.

The men from Bloemfontein have a bye this weekend, which means their captain Adriaan Strauss, who missed the Chiefs game due to illness, should be ready when they tackle the Highlanders at home on 28 April.
